From "The Wales Family: A Genealogy" by Charles P. Wales

"Nathaniel Wales spent the first part if his life at Milton, MA, and joined the church there in 1687. He moved to Windham County, CT in 1711. He lived in the southeast quarter in the village then called Windham Green or the "Hither Place," actually part of the town of Windham. The first town meeting was held June 12, 1692. On Dec. 4, 1700, before the church was fully organized in Windham, Nathaniel Wales was one of three men chosen as deacons. His will, written three months before his death, described him as Esquire, and indicated considerable prosperity.

After his death the Windham church records said:
'Mr. Nathaniel Wales, chosen one of the deacons of the church at is organization in 1700, after he had served God in his generation faithfully many years in his life did with the holy disciple lean upon the breast of his beloved and by the will of God meekly fell asleep in the cradle of death on the 22 day 1744 in the 85th year of his age.'"
