A Clarissa Wales married a John Fitch 24/Feb/1780 in Windham, CT. The
Biographical Sketches of Yale Alumnae pg 581 states that this Clarissa Wales is
the adopted daughter of Nathaniel Wales, of Windham. "John Fitch was born in
Windham, Connecticut, on September 14, 1783, the second son of John and Clarissa
Fitch, of Windham, and grandson of John and Mercy (Lathrop) Fitch. His
mother was an adopted daughter of Nathaniel Wales, of Windham."
The Wales Family: A Genealogy by Charles P Wales states that Nathanial Wales, brother of Seth Wales, is "believed to have adopted two children of his brother Seth, Nathaniel and Clarissa."
