TINA TAGUE HARRIS

I remember meeting my Aunt Tina at her home on Route One, Kirkman. Iowa, in the summer of 1928. Aunt Tina and Uncle Jay with four lovely children lived on one of those large Iowa corn-belt farms. They had a huge red barn for stock, grains, hay and farm equipment, also a large two story white frame house for the family.
What a delightful family they were, three boys and a girl. The youngest child. Billy, a boy of about three years of age with golden red hair, large blue eyes, and fair skin, was one of the handsomest youngsters I have ever seen. The child I had the most fun with and loved so much was Calvin, a lively youngster of about six, he was a riot. If I left my heart anywhere in Iowa it was with Calvin.
While visiting my Aunt, I witnessed one of the rarest sights of my life, the gathering of the neighbors to help thresh a farmer's grain crop. About 20 or 30 neighboring men came to the Harris' Farm along with large farm equipment, a thrashing machine and etc. They not only threshed the grain but my Aunt Tina fed the whole lot of them and I was privileged to help her, what an experience for me. We prepared enormous amounts of food, set it on a large extended dining room table and time and again a bunch of hungry men came in and gobbled up the food. We also, carried drinks and snacks out to the threshing rigs in the field for the threshers, as their job was a rigorous one.
In later years, I was privileged to see my Aunt Tina, a number of different times, as she made several trips out to the West visiting my Folks in Arizona, and her son Bill, in California.
Aunt Tina died in 1954 of a heart condition Just a few month before my Father's death. She was born on 24 May 1892 at Harlan, Shelby County, Iowa.
