According to the birth record, Joseph Safford was born in Ipswich, Essex, MA in March 1704/5 with his parents listed as Thomas and Eleanor Safford. (1) He married Mary Chase in Newbury, Essex, MA on 30 JUl 1728. (2) Their first six children were baptized in Ipswich, Essex, MA with the sixth, William, baptized in 1736. They must have moved to Worcester, MA by 1739 since his children, Ebenezer and Mary Safford were born in Sutton, Worcester, MA. (3) He died sometime before 7 Aug 1757 as his widow, Mary, was selling land from her right of dower to her son on that date. She and her son Joseph were both of Hardwick, Worcester, MA. (4) Joseph was only 53 years old. After his death, his widow moved to Woodstock, VT where she resided with her son, Joseph. (5)
