Will of Samuel Newell Jr.
In the name of God, Amen.
The last will and testament of Samuel Newell, the 2d of
Farmington, in the county of Hartford and colony of Connecticut, in New
England, made this 24th day of June, 1750, viz:
The said Samuel Newell being at this time in health of body
through the goodness of God, and in the possession of my reason, for
which I bless His holy name; but grown into age so that I cannot expect
to continue in this life very long, I am therefore desirous to prevent
trouble among my surviving children, do make and ordain this my last
will and testament, and do desire my executor, whom I shall hereafter
appoint, to see that this my last will and testament may be duly
executed. I desire to commit
my soul and body to God as my Creator, to Jesus Christ as my merciful
redeemer, through the merits of whose blood and perfect obedience I hope
to obtain salvation, first as touching such worldly estate that God has
entrusted w me with.
Item: I give and bequeath unto my well beloved wife the use of one-third
part of my movable estate during her natural life, and to her disposal
forever, tools excepted.
2d. I give and bequeath unto my two oldest sons Samuel and Isaac
twenty shillings apiece in money, with what I have already given them.
3d. I give and bequeath unto my daughter, Sarah Fiske, the
sum of one pound money, with what I have already given to her.
4thly. I give and
bequeath unto my daughter Mary Newell, and to her heirs forever, two
hundred pounds money.
5thly. I give and bequeath
unto my four youngest sons, Josiah, Asahel, Solomon and David, to them,
their heirs and assigns forever, all of the remaining part of my estate,
both real and personal, to be divided in equal proportion between them.
6thly. I do
constitute and appoint my two sons, Samuel and Isaac, to be whole and
sole executors to this my last will and testament.
In witness whereof I do every part thereof, I, the said
Samuel, on the day and year above mentioned, both signed, sealed and
declared this to be my last will and testament.

Samuel Newell, son of Samuel, b. Farmington, Feb 19, 1686; m. Aug 8, 1710,
Sarah, daughter of John and Ruth (Moore) Norton, she born 1689. He located in
Southington parish, South End. just beyond the cemetery, on the east side of the
road, where his descendants lived until 1873, the last being Cromwell Newell. He
died Feb. 11, 1751, and his widow Dec. 5, 1775.
Josiah and Mary married siblings. Josiah Newell married Mary Upson.
Mary Newell married Asa Upson
