Biography of Maria Katharina Gröninger
by Susan Brooke
June 2015

Maria Katharina Gröninger seems to have stayed in Vorderweidenthal even though many of her siblings were emigrating to America. Her husband, Jacob Beccker, was named "of Lindenbrunner Hof" in an 1820 baptism.  By 1821 he was named as "of Vorderweidenthal."  Katharina was a sponsor in 1817 at the birth of Catherina Zimmerle, daughter of her sister Anna Maria Gröninger and again in 1820 for Katharina Gröninger, the first child born to her brother Mathias Gröninger. She was also the sponsor for Andreas Gröninger in 1831, and Christian Gröninger in 1837 sons of her brother Andreas Gröninger. All of her children were born there and two of her sons were having children born in Vorderweidenthal as late as 1864 and 1868.  Johann Henrich Becker had a son, Marx, in 1868.  Marx Becker had a daughter, Barbara Elisabetha, born in Vorderweidenthal in 1864.

Her husband, Jacob Becker, was the sponsor at the baptism of four of the children of Andreas Gröninger and two of the children of Mathias Gröninger.
