Biography of Henry Groeninger
by Susan Brooke
June 2015
Henry Groeninger grew up on the family farm. He married Katherine Fink when he was 23. Then then moved to "Independence," which was the old historical part of Evansville. He was a "laborer" living on Wabash Av between 5th and 6th. In 1869 "Heinrich and Catharina Groninger" were witnesses at Emanuel Lutheran Church at the baptism of Johann Heinrich Asmann born 28 March 1869, son of Johann and A. Maria (Betz) Asmann.
They moved to another old part of Evansville (Lamasco) by 1872. But by 1880 they were living on their own farm. They had 40 acres of land in German township right next to his father's 140 1/2 acres. By 1891 they had 120 acres in "German, Kasson." His son Henry had 40 acres adjoining his by 1903. Henry died at the age of 74.
