3. Petrus Gerritsen  bapt 18 Jun 1732

Gerritsen  and his brother, Bernardus Verbryck were the originators of the name Verbryck.  "Both Bernardus and his brother Gerret, sons of Samuel Gerretsen, of Gravesend, Kings County, were using this last name as early as 1715, when both were members of the Kings County Militia under Captain Thomas Stillwell." (1)  Gerrit baptized his first two children using the name Verbryck, but when Petrus was baptized in 1732 he, the father, was listed simply as Gerrit Gerritse. (2)  In 1735 he is listed  as "Gerrit Gerritson," a member of the Freehold Church along with (his brother) "B. V. Bryck."  In 1752 he signed his will as "Gerrit Gerritsen" but when the inventory was taken on May 26, 1753 it was submitted to court with "Samuel Gerritsen, Jun., Johannos Gerritson and Samuel Gerritson, Executors of the Last Will and Testament of Gerrit Gerritson VerBryck Deceased To the Estate of the said Gerrit Gerritson VerBryck." (3)

In his will written June 9, 1752 he leaves his estate to be "divided amongst my children shere and shere alike.  Item, it is my will and I give to my beloved wife the use of all my personal Estate for and during life or remarrage.  Item after my loving wife decese or remarraige that then all my Estate that I Left shal be divided amonst my loving wife and all my children ---  Item I give to my beloved son Samuel for his first born right my Dutch grate bibel. and I do nominate and appl. Samuel Gerritsen Jun my beloved brother and Johnnis Gerrisen my beloved brother and Samuel Gerritsen my beloved son to be Executors of this my Last Will and Testament----"

His other sons were alive at this time even though only Samuel is mentioned.  However, Samuel is named as Samuel Gerritsen so we can assume he did not use the name Verbryck.
