"Cornelius Jansz Van Arsdalen and his family appear to have removed to the new Dutch colony at Conewago, in York (now Adams) County, Pennsylvania in a large company of settlers from Somerset County, New Jersey.  This company appears to have included his brothers Garret, Johannis, and Isaac, and at least his sister Alte who married Christian Snedeker at or before moving to Conewago.
Cornelius later relocated to the small Dutch community near Sheperdstown, Berkeley County, Virginia (now West Virginia).  In fact, he may not have lived at Conewago for very long, if at all.  In the March 9, 1771 will of brother Johannes and the May 27, 1772 inventory of brother Isaac's estate (both at Conewago), it was their cousin Cornelius Simonsz Van Aersdalen who performed duties, not their brother Cornelius. (The signatures on the documents match the signature on Cornelius Simonsz van Aersdalen's will.)

"Between 1765 and 1770 Johannis and his family removed to the new Dutch colony at Conewago.  He is likely the "John Vanarsdalan" listed as the defendant in case no 097 brought by plaintiff Hance Hamilton before the York County Court of Common Pleas on January 27, 1767.  Johannis is also likely the "John Vanasdarn" who put his "X" mark on two deeds written on May 25 and 26, 1769 in Frederick County, VA .  He did not choose to stay in Frederick/Berkeley County, as did his brother Cornelius.
Johannis, "of Berwick Township" wrote his will on April 9, 1771.-- The will was proved on June 22, 1772, and is on file at York County, PA, recorded in Will Book C, p. 105.

Jannetje Dorland

Jannetje Dorlandt was probably born about 1700 if you assume she was about 19 years old when she married Jan van Arsdale on 22 Oct 1719 at the Dutch Reform Church in Brooklyn. At that time she was listed as a young lady from Jamaica. (1)  There is considerable evidence that her parents were Gerrit Lambertse Dorlandt and his wife Marytje.  When Jannetje's daughter Maritie was baptized in 1724 the witnesses were: Gerret Dorlant and Marretie, her parents. (2)  In 1727 when their son Gerrit was baptized the witnesses were: Lammert Dorland and Harmpie, her grandparents. (2) Their first child was named Cornelius after the father of Jan van Arsdale.  The next two children were named Maritie and Gerrit after her parents.
It has also been noted that Jannetie Dorlandt was a sister of Annetie Dorlandt.  The sisters married the brothers, Jan and Simon van Arsdale. (3) The baptism of her sister  Annetje named their  parents as Garret Dorlandt and Marrytje his wife. (4)
Jan van Arsdalen and Jannetje baptized their first child in Flatlands and their second two children in Jamaica, Long Island, but by 1731 they had moved to Somerset, New Jersey where they baptized their fourth child, Johannes, on 28 Feb 1731. Simon van Arsdalen and Annetie baptized their daughter Maria in the same church on 14 Apr 1734.
Jan van Arsdale and Jannetje had six children before Jannetje Dorlant died sometime before 1743 when her husband remarried.

Jan married first to Jannetje Dorland, said to be the daughter of Garret Dorland and Marretje (?), on 22 October 1719 at the Reformed Dutch Church of Flatbush by V. Antonides, the families’ minister. It is recorded on pp. 324-325 of “Records of The Reformed Protestant Dutch Church of Flatbush, Kings County, New York, vol. 1, 1677-1720" (Holland Society of New York, 1998) as: “Jan van Aartsdalen, young man, born in
Gravesend and residing in N. Amersfort, and Jannetje Dorlant, young lady, born and residing in N. Jamaica.”
{CRV notes that research attributed to Mabel Spell indicated Jannetje to be a daughter of Rem Dorland and Antje Snediker. A Jannetje, daughter of Rem Dorlant and Antie Dorlant, was baptised on October 27, 1704 at Jamaica, as published in the NYGBR, vol. 105, January 1974, p.15. If she was baptised as a baby, typically within 6 weeks of her birth, then she would have been just barely 15 at the time of her marriage. Wilson V. Ledley, in Genealogies of New Jersey Families (from the Genealogical Magazine of New Jersey), vol. I, (Genealogical Publishing Co., Baltimore, MD, 1996, p. 790) states that this “may have been a delayed baptism since the child was married in 1719". However, evidence suggests she was a daughter of Garret and Marretje Dorland, based on the naming of her children and the presence of Garret and Marretje at one baptism, at least.}

Their oldest daughter Maritie was baptized at the Reformed Dutch Congregation of Jamaica on 28 March 1724 (NYGBR vol. 106, July 1975, p. 139), witnessed by Gerret Dorland and Marretie Dorland, and their son Garret was also baptized there on 25 March 1727 (NYGBR vol. 106, October 1975, p. 203), witnessed by Lammert Dorland and Harmpie Dorland.
(CRV notes that Jannetje Dorland's sister, Antje, married Jan van Aersdalen's brother, Simon.  Both couples, consequently, had children named Cornelis, Garret, and Marretje, the latter name serving to honor both grandmothers.  Neither couple had a son named Rem.)
