Josiah Curtiss was born 30 Aug 1662 in Fairfield, CT. (1) He married Abigail Judson in July 1692.  She died in 1697, probably from childbirth, leaving him with three small children under four years old. He then married Mary Beach and had another ten children. (2) His will was written 13 Jun 1745 and probated 20 Nov 1745 in Fairfield. (3) In his will he named his dear wife Mary and children: William, Abigail Hooker, Eunice Wells, Abraham, Josiah, Benjamin, Peter, Mary Patterson, Metiable Curtiss and Charles Curtiss.

In the Name of God Amen ye fifteenth Day of June 1745 I Josiah Curtiss of Stratford in ye County of Fairfield in his Majesties English colony of Connecticut in New England being weak in Body but of Perfect mind & memory, thanks be given unto god, therefore calling  up to mind ye mortality of my body & knowing it is appointed for all men once to die do make & ordain this My Last Will & Testament that is to say Principally & first of all; I give & recommend my soul into ye hands of God that gave it & my body I recommend to ye Earth to be buried in Decent Christian burial at ye Discretion of my Executrix, hereafter named & appointed; nothing doubting but at ye General Resurrection I shall receive ye Same again by ye Might Power of God and as touching such worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this Life with: My funeral Charges and Just Debts being first paid.  I give demise & Dispose of ye same in ye following manner & form:

Imprimis I give & bequeath to my son William Curtiss ten shillings old Tenor; with what I have formerly given him by Deeds of Gift to be ye full of his Portion out of my Estate;  Item.  I give & bequeath to my Daughter Abigail Hooker Wife to Capt. Hezekiah Hooker of Woodbury ten Shillings Old Tenor with what I have formerly given her to be ye gull or her Portion Out of my Estate.

Item: I give & bequeath to my Daughter Eunice Wells, Wife to Lieut. Rob't Wells of Stratford ten Shillings Old Tenor with what I have formerly given her to be ye full of her Portion out of my Estate.  Item:  I give & bequeath to my son Abraham Curtiss ten Shillings Old Tenor with what I have formerly given him by Deed of Gift to be ye full of his Portion out of My Estate; Item: I give & bequeath to my Son Josiah Curtiss ten Shillings Old Tenor with what I have formerly given him by Deed of Gift to be ye full of his Portion Out of My estate;  Item I give & bequeath to my Son Benj'm Curtiss ten Shillings Old Tenor with what I have formerly given him by Deed of Gift to be ye full of his Portion out of My Estate: Item I give & bequeath to my son Peter Curtiss ten Shillings old Tenor with what i have formerly given him by Deed of Gift to be ye full of his Portion out of my Estate.

Item: I give & bequeath to my Daughter Mary Patterson Wife of Mr John Patterson of Stratford ten shillings old Tenor with what I have formerly given her to be ye full of her Portion out of my Estate.  Item I give & bequeath to my son Mathew Curtiss ten Shillings old Tenor with what I have formerly given him to be ye full of his Portion out of my Estate.  I tem  I give & bequeath to my Daughter Mehetibell Curtiss ten Shillings old Tenor with what i have formerly given her by Deed of Gift to be ye full of her Portion Out of my Estate.

Item  I give & bequeath to my son Charles Curtiss ten shillings Old Tenor with what i have formerly given him by Deed of Gift to be ye full of his Portion out of My Estate:  Item I give & bequeath to Mary Curtiss my Dearly beloved Wife whom I likewise Constitute make & Ordain my Sole Executor of this my Last Will & Testament, all ye Remainder of my moveable Estate of Goods & Chattel of what nature or kind soever: for her my so Loving wife Mary & her heirs & assigns forever to have & to hold as her & their proper Estate forever, to her & their own proper use & Behoof for ever & I do hereby utterly Disallow revoke & Disannull all & every other former Testament Will, by me made, ratifying & confirming this & no other to be my Last Will & Testament.  In Witness where I have hereunto Set my hand & Seal in Stratford ye fifteenth Day of June one thousand Seven hundred & forty five; Signed Sealed Published Pronounced & Declared by ye sd Josiah Curtiss to be his Last Will & Testament in ye Presence of we ye Subscribers.
