Ichabod Church was born 22 Dec 1761 in Mansfield, Tolland, Co. (1)
He served in the American Revolution when he was seventeen in the 3rd Regiment
of Massachusetts Bay Militia for a little over a month, from 15 Oct 1779 to 21
Nov 1779. (2) By 27 May 1785 he had settled in Lebanon, NH where he purchased a
50 acre lot in Lebanon for £40. (3) Two years later he married Hannah Palmer on 08 Oct 1787 in Lebanon, Grafton Co., NH .
(4) His son Asa was born in Lebanon in 1788. But in 1793 he sold his land to
John Chapman for £60 and moved to Vermont. (3) Interestingly, one of the
witnesses to this deed was a Sarah Palmer.
Two months later his daughter Abiah was born in Chelsea, VT.
(4) By 1795 he
was in Montpelier where his daughter Hannah was born. Lucinda was born there two
years later in 1797. (5) He was listed in the 1810 census for Montpelier with
one male over 45 and one female over 45. two females 10-15 (His son Asa had
already married.). This is the last time we are sure Hannah Palmer Church was
alive.
Ichabod married again on 26 Nov 1818 to "Mrs. Betsy Pitts" in Montpelier.
(6) It is about
this time that his son Asa Church and his wife Lydia Lewis, left for Licking
County Ohio.
In 1830 Ichabod was still in Middlesex, VT with a woman aged 50-60 and another
male, 20-30, possibly a son of Mrs. Betsey Pitts. His wife, Betsey Pitts, died
on 7 Dec 1831 in Middlesex, Washington, VT. (7) He had several land transactions
in Middlesex with the last one a sale on 28 Feb 1832, shortly after the
death of his wife. (8) Then
Ichabod disappeared from VT records. His nephew, Truman T. Church, (Bela's son)
said in 1888 that Ichabod went to Indiana. (9) His son Asa Church and his wife Lydia were in Vermillion
County, IN in 1840. There was an elderly man living with them who could be
Ichabod. (10)

(9) Died in Indiana
Ichabod's nephew Truman T. Church, who was the son of Bela Church, wrote a genealogy in 1888. Excerpt is shown below. He says that Ichabod "first went to Montpelier, then to Indiana." It is possible that Ichabod is the elderly man living with Asa Church in the 1840 census for Vermillion Co., IN.
