Their son, Walter, wrote a letter to his Aunt Birt and Uncle Tom (Brewer) shortly after WWII.

Dear Aunt Birt and Uncle Tom, I first received your letter to day and I was very glad to hear from you. A line from any one makes me feel better for here in this place a fellow will have the blues some times. Well Aunt I went through the war all OK and now I am in Germany in a little town called Branch Reek Dorf near Erblinz. Well I can be thankful that I am living for we certainly did see some of the hard fighting. It was something awful. We had to lay in the trenches in mud and water and they fell all around me, but they didn't happen to get me. But I guess I got some of them. I can't tell you very much now, so I can tell you when I get home. I sure would be glad to get home now, but I think it will be two months before we can leave here. I sure will be a happy boy when I can get out once more.

You was asking me if I ever seen Russell Anwill and I never (?) of them. I had a letter from Russell the other day and they never got to seeing of the fighting and etc.

Letter is hard to read. I have typed it without the grammatical errors.
