Obituary Hanover Herald, March 6, 1936, Hanover, Kansas-- C.H. Boettcher Passed Away. Christoph H. B. Boettcher, of near Hollenberg, passed away at the Steele City, Neb. hospital March 3, 1936 at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, at the age of 77 years, 1 month and 29 days. Deceased was a son of Christoph Boettcher and his wife nee Marie Wesdow. He came to this county 73 years ago when he was 4 years old. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1pm from the home and interment will be made in the Hanover cemetery, conducted by a minister from Lincoln, Neb. He is survived by his wife; one son and one daughter.

Obituary of George Boettcher, the son of Chris and Louise Boettcher, was born Sept, 13, 1891, on a farm west of Lanham, Kansas. On Oct. 4 of that year, he was baptized into the Christian faith at St. John's Lutheran church of Lanham.Although George would rather have become a railroad engineer, he was a dutiful son, and farmed with is father. It is interesting to note that George's sister, Hilda, left the home near Lanham to attend high school in Lincoln. She went on to earn her doctorate in languages. Hilda taught at Union College in Lincoln before moving to California where she and her husband were both college professors. On Sept 13, 1916, George married Hazel Mayborn, who had been raised on a neighboring farm. After their wedding, they farmed the land west of Lanham. George and Hazel had one son, James. Two months before George and Hazel would have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, Hazel died, in the summer of 1966. George continued his even 'keeled life in Hanover. He was well known for many reasons. One of these is the windmills he produced in his kitchen workshop. The story is told of a traveler passing through Hanover who niticed the windmills. After this traveler had arrived home he desired to purchase a windmill. So an order was sent, addressed to the Windmill Man, Hanover. Of course, George received the order. In 1968 George became the weather reporter for the Hanover News. While his methods were not meteorologically scientific, his reports were as helpful as any others could be, and his personal observations included in the reports were enjoyable to read. After moving to Hanover, George and Hazel became active members of Zion Lutheran church. George died on Sunday, Nov. 27, 1977 in Hanover. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Hazel, and by his sister, Hilda Haagstotz. George is survived by his son, Jim; daughter in law, Mary of Enon, Ohio; by two granddaughters, and by cousins.
