Understanding the Results

Markers - These are the DYS numbers across the top of the results table (e.g. 393, 385a), and refer to the Locus, or specific location a gene occupies on a chromosome.

Allele - These values are the actual test results.   An allele is determined for every marker in the test (which can be 12 or 25, depending on which test the participant selected). Alleles are what must be compared among participants to see if a match is possible.

ID# - Every participant is represented by an ID number.   Clicking on an ID number will lead you to information on that participant's earliest know Human ancestor, and may allow you to view personal information about the participant (name, e-mail address or pedigree chart), depending on how much information the participant has chosen to share.

Family Group - Related individuals will be grouped together and color-coded on the chart for easy comparison.
