Boarding with cloth maker John Hibberd and family in Chippenham. In 1881 Thomas is 36yrs, wife Anne 41ys, living at No 4 Prospect Place, Chippenham, Wiltshire.  Children: William 7yrs; Edith. A. 6yrs; Lillian. M. 5yrs; Thomas. H. 2yrs; Harriet. CAY/KAY/KEY Surname only given Blacksmith 1848: Charles Cay/Key/Kay. CAY is a corruption of KEY and KAY. The Kennet and Avon Canal runs through this small market town which was on the route from Bristol - main port on the west coast to Reading, London and links to the east coast - important cut through rather than sailing round the south coast of England. Historically the route was followed along the rivers many scores of years before the canals joined them. I have this surname in my own tree and links to the famous John KAY, inventor of the Flying Shuttle. Keys and Kays came from Lancashire, moved through Heritage Valley area of Derbyshire with the Industrial Revolution and mine ended up in Radford, Nottingham.
