CLUTTERBUCK William Blacksmith 1786: William Clutterbuck, blacksmith. Born about 1786. William signed a lease for a blacksmith shop in Northwood Green Hamlet, parish of Westbury on Severn in October 1814. It was an active business at that time and William was aged 28 yrs. He was baptised in nearby Hasfield. I don't know where he got his training. The business stayed in the Clutterbuck family until at least 1871. Contact Victor by
COLLETT George Blacksmith 1817: George Collett, master blacksmith. Born 1817 in Admington Gloucestershire. Died 1896 in Stoke on Trent Staffordshire. The 1851 UK census lists him as 53yrs, a blacksmith at Back Ends, Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire; with wife maria (nee Jennings) 47yrs. They had ten children. In 1861: a blacksmith at Cow Fair, Chipping Campden, Glouscestershire. 1871: master blacksmith at The Butts, Mickleton, Gloustershire. 1881: an Inn Keeper/blacksmith, Swan Inn, Eccleshall, Staffs. 1891: Retired blacksmith at Cornwallis Street, Stoke on Trent Staffordshire. He married Caroline Harrap 1897 in Twyning Gloucestershire where he appears on the 1901 census as the village Blacksmith. DAVIS Ephraim Blacksmith 1820: Ephraim Davis, blacksmith. Born in 1820 in Bisley, Gloucester, England. The 1841 census shows he was apprenticed to William Smith in Bisley, learning the blacksmith trade. Sometime soon after he married Jane ? and lived in the Bristol area before coming to Clerkenwell, London where he worked for the remainder of his days as a blacksmith, (according to the census's) ; he died approx 1876. MARTIN William Blacksmith 1895: William Martin, blacksmith. The 09 Nov 1895 edition of 'Gloucester Citizen' newspaper mentions in court news that "W. Clutterbuck blacksmith of Northwood Green, was bound over in (UK pounds)5 to keep the peace for using threatening and disgusting language to William Martin, blacksmith. STEEL Thomas Blacksmith 1770: Thomas Steel was a blacksmith in the town of Coleford. In 1826, he was convicted at Gloucester Assizes of stealing a piece of timber from the Forest of Dean, and sentenced to seven years transportation. He served six years on the prison hulk ""Justitia"" at Woolwich, before being pardoned in 1832. He died in 1846 and is buried at Newland.Also listed in the Blacksmiths of Gloucestershire. Richard Henry Tyler sailed to Fremantle with his wife Agnes and four children. He started a coach building business in South Street Fremantle and was joined by his brother in law John William Porter. WALLACE / WALLIS John William Blacksmith 1857: John William Wallace, blacksmith. Born 1857, Shurdington, Gloucestershire,England. Died 1896 in Kenton Devon. John William was the son of John Wallace (born 1827 Badgworth, Shurdington) and Hanna Scane (born 1837 in Bishopstrow, Wiltshire). Hanna died in 1865 when John William was 9. He left school at age 11 in 1868 and as his father did not what him to work on the land, he went through family contacts and found him an apprenticeship as a blacksmith in Kenton, Devon. The1871 UK census lists John as 13yrs,apprentice to and living in Kenton with master blacksmith John Cruse( the Curse being the family friends). The name Wallace is sometimes found as Wallis in some records and on his marriage records, his name and that of his wife are both miss spelt, making it hard to trace them. John William married Rhoda Beedel (born 1853 Kenton) at Kenton, 11th February, 1879. In the 1881 census John William is 23yrs, married, a blacksmith lodging at the Village, Kenton while Rhoda 27yrs & daughter R.T. Lodges with John & Mary Lisson (ag. labourer). It possible George was married to their daughter as he is a widower and also listed is lodger Mary Williamson 2yr old child (?his daughter). Another lodger listed: Robert Gent 42yrs (carpenter). Listed in Blacksmiths of Gloucester and Norfolk.
