Biography :

Sebastian Keipes "Kiepes" from  Appleton. Very few information found concerning Sebastian Kiepes. From the Soldiers' Home papers, he stated in 1890 being a Tinsmith, living in Chicago, a widower and having for nearest relative a Mrs Catherine Miller living at Appleton, Wisconsin. He also stated of suffering of rheumatism contacted in 1882 at Prescott, Arizona.

He left the Home in May 1892 and was not back before June 1901. He statted being 56 y.o. so he was born about 1834. In the 1900 census, there was a Sebastian Kiepes born 1832 and living in St Louis Missouri and stating having emigrated in 1860, an umbrella maker. He died in the Home Hospital on December 1, 1912 and is buried in the Home Cemetery Section J, row 6, grave 1700.

Note: I found a Peter Keipes, born Belgium, 23 y.o. living in Harrison, Wisconsin, on a list of drafted men in 1863.
