The Jannee brothers, Charles and Louis,
came to the United States from the City of Gembloux, Belgium in 1855. They were
on board the Antartic, arrival at New York on July 7. They made their way
west to Wisconsin and in 1860 were working as farmers in Town of Winneconne,
Winnebago County. They both gave up farming in December 1861 and enlisted in the
3rd Cavalry and rode together until their discharges in 1865. After the war
Louis moved to the City of Green Bay and found work as a painter. His brother
Charles rejoined his wife and children and moved to the Town of Green Bay, and
there, he practiced medicine among his fellow countrymen.
His wife Anna was from Belgium and they had a daughter (more probably Louis
stepdaughter) Mary, born about 1858 in Belgium, as it is stated in the 1870
census. Louis Jannee was admitted in the Home in 1877 at the age of 41,
suffering from rheumatism. He died in the Home Hospital two year later, on
September 30, 1879 from cardiac and hepatic disease. He is buried in the Home
Cemetery Block 2 Row 12. (section 7 site 125).
