J. Peter Humer, who enlisted as a private on Oct. 28, 1861 at Napoleon,
Ohio, was appointed 1st sergent on Dec. 1, 1861, in Co. A 68 Reg't, Ohio
Infantry, he became ill and died Sept. 5, 1862. His wife filed for an Army
pension. Among the military papers there is a declaration stating that John P.
Humer was born in Esch, Belgium, (actually Grand-Duchy) son of Peter Umer and
Mary Dewsey, his wife Mary Adelaide Harris was the the daughter of John B.
Harris and Emma Ross of Napoleon, Ohio. The marriage certificate shows that her
name was Mary Ailid Harras dau. of John Harras and Emma Rofs (or Ross). They
were married on the 18th of November 1861 at St Mary Church in Detroit, Mich. by
Rev. Francis Van Emstede, the witnesses were Charles Rabaut (ou Rabant ) and
Judith Aspenslager of Detroit.
