Biography :
First admitted in Steuben, New York Soldiers' home on
june 25, 1884, 68 y.o. a confectioner, stated being born Germany, his nearest
relative being Anna Kirtley, 177 Delany St., New York city. When transferred to
Central Branch on August 1885, he stated being a single with no relatives.
The regimental records said he was wounded in action May 16, 1864 at Drewry's Bluff, Virginia. But, when entering the Soldiers' Home, he stated having been wounded at the battle of Olustee, Florida, on February 20, 1864, where his regiment loss 44 in killed, wounded and missing. He died at the Home on June 2, 1895 and is buried in the Home cemetery Section I, row 8, grave 34. No other information.
