Biography :
Henry Burton from
Eagle Harbor, Michigan. When entering the Home in 1891 he stated living in
Wilton, Monroe County, Wisconsin, a widower with no relatives, suffering of loss
of right eye and rheumatism contacted in 1863 and 1864 in the service. I find an
Henry Borton, born Belgium about 1830, with wife Catherine born Wurtemberg, a
farmer in Nasewaupee, Door Co., Wisconsin in the 1870 census. The children
listed seems his step-children as the family name is stated being “Pifster”:
Peter 7, Catherine 4, Anna 3 and Margareth 13. In the 1880 census I find an
Henry Burtun, born Belgium about 1831, a servant in the Hotel of Matheous Achten,
in the city of Shawano, Wisconsin.
Henry Burton left the home between 1892 and 1902 at his request but I find no trace of him. He was back for a year between February 1902 and April 1903 and anew in December 1905. He died at the Home on May 2, 1907 from asphyxia, due to obstruction of larynx while eating. He is buried in the Home cemetery Block 16 n° 125.
