Biography :
Emil Knepper is found in the 1860 census at Franklin, Monona County,
Iowa, a day laborer born about 1834, working for W. D. Thompson, Engineer.
I find an Emil Knepper having previously enlisted in the US Army on February
12, 1858 in New York for 5 years, deserted May 26, 1858. He stated being 23
years old (so born around 1835) a clerk and born Luxembourg, Belgium.
If so, his age at enlistment in 1861 was rather 32 not 22 if he is the same man found in the census and in the US Army records.
No other information found, no pension filled.
