Biography :

 

Was sick from enlistment and sent on sick leave at Leopold in Nov. And Dec. 1862.

In Jan. And Feb. 1863 absent sick without leave.

Returned to company Aug. 2, 1863

Died Aug. 16, 1863 at Maikenos (?) plantation, Big Bear Creek, Miss. From chills and fevers and hemorrhage of the lungs. Eugène Devillez nursed him several days before his death and was present at the date of his death.

He had a brother August James in the 35th Ind., and his other brother Amable James was in the same regiment with him and died in the service.

His widow, Elisabeth Rhodes, married Auguste Dupont on April 2, 1866 and Francis Claudel was appointed guardian of his daughter, Mary J. on April 28, 1879.
