Biography :

The name was sometimes spelled Gilles, sometimes Gillis. Occupation : farmer

Enlisted private Comp. B 33 Ind. 31 Aug. 1861 at Vincennes, mustered in 4 Sept. 1861 at Indianapolis.

Oct 61 absent sick, left at Crab Orchard.

Reenlisted 28 jan. 1864 as Sergeant at Christiana Tenn. Wounded 20 July 1864 during the Atlanta campaign, at Peach Tree Creek Ga., in right breast, Gun. Shot. wound penetrating right lung. The official casualty sheet says mortally, but it seems he recovered.

July -> Sept. 64 : absent sick, sent to hosp. Nashville Tenn. from wound received 20 July 1864.

Oct. 64 -> march 65 absent wounded in Indiana (sergent) admitted Sept 16, 1864, convalescent
