Biography :
Bernard Reyniers, his father, settled In Mishawaka around 1845. Bernard and his family lived on the northeast corner of West Second St. (LWW) and Towle Ave. His son Désiré was the first child born of Belgian parents in Mishawaka (september 14, 1845). The 1850 Census, due no doubt to the enumerator's unfamiliarity with the Flemish accent, listed Désiré as "Daisy" and presumed the child was a girl. This same child, when he grew up to manhood used the phonetic spelling of his name and went through life as "Daisery."
He enlisted in the Union Army in 1860 (???) as a 100-day volunteer, and then re-enlisted until the end of the Civil War.

from Belgium (Kingdom Archives) : I found a request for a passport dated 2 April 1844 for Bernard Reyniers, blacksmith in NERELE (NEVELE ?) for the United States. Destination NELIS (?). Purpose: join his brother already settled there.
Verslype says : An Edward Reynier appears on the list of persons paying pew rent at Queen of Holy Angels Church in Mishawaka in 1849, but not on the Census of 1850. Either dead or moved to Detroit.
Peter REYNIERS, 33rd Indiana: No record of anyone by this name was found.in the National Archives (pension files)
Kathryn A. Hillebrand a descendant of the Reyniers family do not know who Peter REYNIERS is and do not know if he is from the family of Bernard and Daisery.
Thanks to Mr. Irvin L. Morse of Mishawaka who sent me some genealogical information on Desire Reyniers and to the St. Joseph Public Library
