Biography :
Came alone to California in 1849 for
gold mining. Never returned. Louis Terdie, contrary to his claim as being a
bachelor when entering the home, was married about 1870 at Salt Lake City with a
Margaret Jennie, born Switzerland, formerly wife of Simeon Granneau, deceased.
She died June 20, 1877.
Louis Terdie was still a resident of Salt Lake City before entering the Soldiers'
Home on April 4, 1889, at the age of 73. He stated being born in Brussels,
Belgium and suffering from varicose veins left leg. Not even a pension
certificate was ever delivered as his death occurred only three months later on
July 8, the cause of his death being "Pleur'y Stom'h". He is buried in the Home
cemetery section 1, row D, grave 13.
When his daughter Angeline Josephe
married in 1869, she wrote, concerning his father, in a notarial act: "Which one
states that she wishes enter into marriage and can not produce the consent of
his father who has disappeared from Brussels for 20 years where he had his last
home rue Notre Dame aux Neiges n 31, embarking for California, and she do not
know where he is right now and if he still exists".
