Organized at Fort Snelling, Minn., March 15 to April 30, 1862. [...] 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, 16th Army Corps, to November, 1864. 2nd Brigade, 1st Division (Detachment), Army of the Tennessee, Dept. of the Cumberland, to February, 1865. 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, 16th Army Corps, Military Division West Mississippi, to September, 1865.
SERVICE.-[...] March through Arkansas and Missouri in pursuit of Price September 17-November 15. Moved to Nashville, Tenn., November 24-30. Battle of Nashville December 15-16. Pursuit of Hood to the Tennessee River December 17-28. Moved to Eastport, Miss., and duty there till February, 1865. Moved to New Orleans, La., February 6-22. Campaign against Mobile, Ala., and its Defences March 7-April 12. Siege of Spanish Fort and Fort Blakely March 26-April 8. Assault and capture of Fort Blakely April 9. Occupation of Mobile April 12. March to Montgomery April 13-25. Duty at Montgomery, Selma and Demopolis, Ala., till August. Mustered out September 6, 1865.
Regiment lost during service 4 Officers and 86 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 4 Officers and 175 Enlisted men by disease. Total 269.

 

Organized at Fort Snelling and St. Paul, Minn. Companies "A, B, C, D" July 25 to September, 1863. Company "E" mustered August 31, 1864, and Company "F" mustered September 1, 1864.
Companies "A, B, C, D" march to Pembina October 5-November 13, 1863, and frontier duty there till May, 1864. Moved to Fort Abercrombie May 5-16, 1864. Assigned to duty Companies "A" and "B" as garrison at Fort Abercrombie, Company "C" at Alexandria and Pomme de Terre. Company "D" on patrol duty from Fort Abercrombie to Pembina. Companies "E" and "F" on frontier duty. Mustered out April 26 to June 22, 1866.
Battalion lost during service by disease 21.

 

Organized at St. Paul and Rochester, Minn., September, 1864, to February, 1865. Companies ordered to Chattanooga, Tenn., as fast as organized and garrison duty there till September, 1865. Mustered out September 27, 1865.
