Nicholas BAKEIS, farmer, P. O. Adrian, was born in Big
Spring Township, this county, son of Joseph (a farmer) and Jane (Jenning)
Bakeis, natives of Belgium, former born March 7, 1820, latter born May 25, 1825;
they were married February 25, 1845, and were the parents of twelve children,
six of whom are now living: Joseph, John, Nicholas, Frank, Andrew and Lewis.
Joseph Bakeis, the father of this family, died June 5, 1885, aged sixty-five
years, two months and twenty-nine days. Our subject, along with his brothers. is
managing the homestead farm, comprising 152 acres of good land, where the family
has resided nearly forty-three years. They are all members of the Catholic
Church at St. Nicholas.
