Most of the information is from U.S. Censuses. I have a few vital records. The Censuses and many of the vital records are available online at familysearch.org (the Family History Library site), at ancestry.com or genealogy.com

The Netherlands

The first big break came when I discovered material on Wardenburgs submitted to the Centraal Buro voor Genealogie in the Haag by J. G. Wardenburg in 1969. This material is available on microfilm (#1180716) from the Family History Centers of the Mormon Church. J. G. Wardenburg also published a book on the Wardenburg family and Bert Wardenburg in the Netherlands scanned and sent me some of the pages from that book.

The Netherland State Archives has a webpage, Genlias, a genealogical search page. They are in the process of entering an index to births, marriages and deaths in each of the provinces. The English version is at: http://www.archief.nl/English/index.htm (click on "Database Ancestors") and the Dutch version is at: http://www.archief.nl/rad/

I also have a copy of a genealogy of Bernard Diederik Gijsbert (von) Wardenburg which is on file at the Oldenburg (Germany) State Archives.

I found information about Wardenburgs in the 1965 volume of Genealogisches Handbuch des Adels (Genealogical Handbook of Noble Families) and I recently received a copy of Die Familie Wardenburg by Harald Schieckel, 1981. Copies of this 20 page booklet are still available. It is in German, of course, but there are 3 pages of genealogy charts and photos of the tombstones of Bernard Diedrich WARDENBURG and his wives, Wilhelmina Maria (TOEL) and Sophie Elisabeth (BÖHM), and of Cunradt (Conrad) MESENBRINCK and his wife, Christina (WARDENBURG). There is also a photo of Major General Wilhelm Gustav Friedrich WARDENBURG, and a picture of a Wardenburg wappen (coat of arms) from 1730. E-mail me if you want directions for ordering a copy. I also have some pages from the "Nachloß Miehe. The Neuenhuntorf sources are listed in that section of this webpage.

The Family History Library (Mormon) in Salt Lake City has a collection of the Danmarks Adels Aarbog (Danish Noble Families Yearbook) from 1884 to 1966 (a few volumes are missing) and 1979-81. Each year someone in the Wardenburg family submitted information about births, marriages and deaths. Included in this series are the descendants of Diedrich August von WARDENBURG, and his brother, Friedrich Detlef Gustav von WARDENBURG, who were elevated to the Danish nobility in 1833.

The Genealogisches Handbuch der Oeselchen Ritterschaft, (Genealogical Handbook of the Teutonic Knights of Oesel), Nicolai von Essen, 1935, has information primarily about Ernst Christian Ludwig von WARDENBURG (son of Friedrich Detlef Gustav von WARDENBURG) and his descendants.
