In December
of 1996, Jim's cousin, Mary Margaret Caccamise Nawojski, sent
us two leather-bound picture albums that had been given to her
many years ago by her mother, Phyllis Banister Caccamise.
It
is believed all of the pictures, with the exception of three (as
noted), were taken in Erie Co., Pennsylvania, probably from about
the mid-1860s to the early 1900s. Many of the photographs are carte
d'visites and have the photographer's name and address imprinted
on the back (see list of photographers below). The remainder of
the photographs are tintypes and are not marked.
We
will probably never be able to identify the people in the pictures
on the following pages. Are they Banisters, Bulls, Steiners or Lossies?
What we do know is they are family.
