MILDRED / ANN CHRISTY (SAMUEL (?))

James and John Christy wrote that their father had two sisters.  They both agreed that his twin was named Juda.  James thought the other sister was named "Milly".  John admitted he wasn't sure of her first name but thought it might have been Mildred".  James thought Julius and Juda were eldest, John thought they were youngest. Both brothers thought "Milly" married a man named "Medley."  However, John believed that before her marriage to Medley she married a man named "Blackburn."  He added that he knew the sons of that marriage.

Again the Christ Church Parish Register, Middlesex County 30th. November contributes some evidence.

"Edward, son of William and Elizabeth Blackburn, born 30th. November baptized 21 December 1729."

"George, son of Edward and -------Blackburn, born 16th. January 1746".

"William, son of Edward and ANN Blackburn, born 17th. October, baptized 23rd. 1748.

Middlesex County deed books record deeds naming Edward and ANN Blackburn, the first dated 1751.  The last deed naming them is dated 1754. DEED BOOK 7 A, PG. 458, and DEED BOOK 8, page 45:  "Edward Blackburn, and Ann, his wife, to Philip Jones of Gloucester, 300 acres."  This deed is dated 15 October 1754.

A BLACKBURN GENEALOGY compiled by Vinnetta Ranke in 1839 (available at Virginia State Library) repeats the information in the Middlesex Parish Register and adds a son Julius and a daughter Mildred.  The Ranke book adds the marriages also found in these primary sources:

BEDFORD COUNTY VIRGINIA MARRIAGE RECORDS:

Julius Blackburn and Elizabeth Scuggs married 24th. January 1785.

Mildred Blackburn and Henry Buford married 22nd. March 1771.

LOUISA COUNTY VIRGINIA MARRIAGE RECORDS:

George Blackburn and Prudence Berry married 11 September 1771.

GEORGE BLACKBURN

George Blackburn was born the 16th. of January 1746 in Middlesex County Virginia.  He married Prudence Berry in Louisa County Virginia in 1771.  They migrated to Woodford County Kentucky.  George was a prosperous farmer and a leading citizen of Woodford County.  He and Prudence raised a large family.  George died in 1817.  His Will (WOODFORD COUNTY KENTUCKY, WILL BOOK E, PG. 202-04, names as heirs:  "Wife, Prudence; Daughters, Mildred White, (William White), Harriet Blackburn, Margaret KinKaide, Maria Blackburn, and Nancy Bartlett; sons, Churchill J., Jonathan, Edward, William B., and George."  The will was written 5th. September 1817 and filed for Probate in the November court 1817.

JULIUS BLACKBURN

Julius Blackburn also migrated to Kentucky.  He settled in Scott County Kentucky.  His will is recorded in SCOTT COUNTY KENTUCKY, WILL BOOK E, PG. 390.  Named as heirs are:  Wife, Elizabeth, and Churchill, William, and Mordicia.

Other sources indicate the following information:

Thomas Blackburn, born 1788, married Willina Burbridge.
William Blackburn,  married Sallie Herndon.
Nancy Blackburn, md. first -----Branham, 2nd. Nimrod Martin.
Patsy Blackburn, married John Price of Louisville.
Polly Blackburn, married 1st. Sarah Keene, 2nd. Eliza Fry, 3rd. Mrs.
    Eliza Branham.
MILDRED BLACKBURN

Mildred married Henry Buford, a son of John and Judith Early Buford.  They remained in Bedford County Virginia.  Henry Buford died the 31st. of December 1814.  Mildred had died the 19th. of April 1802.  Henry and Mildred Blackburn Buford had the following known children:

Elizabeth Buford, born 8 August 1773
Thomas Buford, born 11 March 1776
Abraham Buford, born 13 December 1778
Henry Buford, Jr., born 17 February 1781
Prudence Buford, born 23 July 1783
Pascal Buford, born 14 February 1791
Julia Ann Buford, born 17 April 1793
Mary Malinda Buford, born 14 July 1795.
Prudence Buford, a daughter of Mildred and Henry Buford, married her first cousin, Jonathan Blackburn, a son of George Blackburn.

No marriage record for a Mildred Christy to a Blackburn or a Medley was found.

The record in the Middlesex Parish Register causes one to think that Julius' sister may have been named ANN, not Mildred.  It is possible that James and John confused her name with that of her daughter, Mildred Blackburn Buford.

A Medley family did live in Culpeper County at the appropriate time but no marriage record, will or deed names Ann or Mildred as a Medley.
