ELIZABETH CHRISTY (Julius, Samuel)
Elizabeth was probably the eldest child of Julius and Agatha Barnett Christy. She was born in Culpeper County, Virginia c. 1758. She married William Glass in Culpeper County c. 1774. William was the son of Jehu Glass and his wife Elizabeth Dozier Belfield Wilson Glass.
Elizabeth Dozier Belfield Wilson Glass was the daughter of Richard Dozier and his wife, Elizabeth Hudson. Richard Dozier died in Westmoreland County Virginia. His will dated 5 May 1739, proven 26 November 1751, names "son-in-law" Thomas Templeman, daughter Margaret Templeman, daughter Elizabeth Wilson, Daniel Muse, children Sarah Dozier, Hannah Muse, Martha and Mary Dozier, wife Elizabeth and granddaughter Elizabeth Belfield." (Wills of Westmoreland County Virginia, Augusta B. Fothergill.)
Elizabeth Dozier married first, as his third wife, a Dr. Joseph Belfield of Richmond County Virginia. They had two children, Joseph and Elizabeth. Dr. Belfield died in Richmond County Virginia April 1738. His will (Richmond County Will Book 5, page 326, dated 16 July 1737 and proved 5 June 1738.) names a son of his first mariage [sic] to Frances Wright, Thomas Wright Belfield, wife Elizabeth and son Joseph Belfield. Dr. Belfield did not name his daughter Elizabeth who was born 19 March 1738 several weeks prior to his death.
Elizabeth Dozier married second James Wilson. Elizabeth and James Wilson had two children, Richard and Sarah. James Wilson, Sr. died 1743 and before 1745. Elizabeth married third Jehu Glass. (Richmond County Virginia Deed Book 11, pages 131-33: dated 20 June 1752, "from Jehu Glass of the County of Richmond, Planter, and Elizabeth, his wife----selll a parcel of land---in Orange County Virginia, formerly leased by James Wilson the second husband of Elizabeth---also all the slaves and personal estate which the said Jehu and Elizabeth Glass are entitled to either as the Dower or Distributive part of the estates of Joseph Belfield, deceased or the said James Wilson, the Several former husbands of the said Elizabeth.
Elizabeth Belfield, daughter of Dr. Joseph Belfield and his wife, Elizabeth Dozier, married Benjamin Cave the 2nd. (son of Benjamin Cave and Hannah Bledsoe). Elizabeth Belfield Cave's brother, Joseph Belfield (son of Dr. Joseph Belfield and Elizabeth Dozier) died in Culpeper County Virginia. His will, dated 9 August 1766, proved 1 July 1770, named his Brother William Glass and nephew Belfield Cave. brother-in-law, Benjamin Cave and sister, Elizabeth Cave.
William is listed in the 1787 census of Culpeper County, Virginia as self and 0-2-7-3-2, that is: 0 white males over 16 and under 21, 2 blacks over 16 and 7 blacks under 16, 3 horses and 2 cattle.
William Glass was a witness to a deed 17 January 1778, Orange County Virginia (Deed Book 17, page 14), when Julius and Agatha Christy sold land to Anthony Foster. William Glass also witnessed the marriage license for William Cave, son of John Cave, and Frances Christy, daughter of Julius and Agatha Christy (Orange County Virginia marriage records 1783).
William and Elizabeth Christy Glass migrated to Kentucky prior to 1795. William is listed on the Scott County Kentucky tax list for 1795. They settled on McConnell's Run in Scott County.
Elizabeth witnessed the will of her brother-in-law, John Valentine Lindsey, in Scott County, Kentucky in 1805.
The death dates for William and Elizabeth Christy Glass have not been proved. Elizabeth is named in her father's will written in 1805 and probated in 1808.
At a court held 6th. February 1815 William Glass and William Glass Jr. were named among those appointed to settle with James Bell his administration of the state of Benjamin Jones, Jr. There is a fragment of a burnt record referring to the settlement of the estate of an Elizabeth Glass: ".....made oath to the within......the estate of Elizabeth Glass as Justice of the Peace...this 23rd of October 1825.....William......November Court 1825." This would indicate that Elizabeth Christy Glass died c. 1825 and William after 1815. [sic I think she means after 1825]
William Glass, Jr. Born 13 January 1775 in Virginia, came to Kentucky with his parents about 1792. Draper (17cc11) tells of a Mr. Spence being shot by the Indians and that William Glass heard the shot. That it was this Wm. Glass was proved when the narrator named a known son.Elizabeth Glass, second child of William and Elizabeth Christy Glass was born c. 1776/7 in Virginia.William Jr. was baptized in November 1800 into the Baptist Church, first called "McConnell's Run", later called "Stamping Ground."
He married Phoebe Atkins about 1803/04. Phoebe was born c. 1765/75 and died bet. 1842-50. (Scott Co. Deed V-456 and Census.)
William Glass, Jr. died 21 May 1857. Scott County Kentucky, Vital records state that he was age 82, a widower, parents : William and Betsy Glass, that he was born in Virginia.
Belfield Glass, born 22 December 1780, in Virginia. He married, in Kentucky, Elizabeth Bourne. They lived in Owen County, Kentucky.
Benjamin Glass was born in Virginia between 1775-1784. He married Susan Bourne. They lived in Owen County, Kentucky.
Mary "Polly" Glass was born between 1784-1790, in Virginia. She married, in Kentucky, Benjamin sharp. They lived in Owen County.
Mildred Glass, born 1785, In Virginia. She married James Atkins. They moved to Indiana.
John Glass, was born in 1788 in Virginia. He married Polly Bourne in Kentucky. They too lived in Owen County, Kentucky.
Frances Glass, born between 1784-1794 in Virginia. She married William Sharp. They lived in Owen County, Kentucky.
George Glass, born after william and Elizabeth moved to Kentucky. He married a "Miss Hess". Theey [sic] lived in Owen County, Kentucky.
Jehu Glass, was born in Kentucky, C. 1796/7. He married Nancy Southworth. They lived in Owen County, Kentucky.
Susan Glass married Benjamin Cave.
