What I Know About PATRICK LACY MADIGAN before
his marriage to Eliza Holyoake on the 14th June 1866 at Motueka.....
PATRICK LACY MADIGAN was a Catholic Irishman from Limerick, Eire.. He left home at the age of 16 with a brother and went to the U.S.A. where he worked in a bank. They heard of the gold rushes in Australia and Patrick and his brother left for the gold diggings at Ballarat, Victoria and from there to Otago and the West Coast diggings.. Patrick did not make his fortune and eventually left the diggings and travelled to Nelson. At Nelson he met Emily Holyoake, they were married 14th June 1866 at Motueka. Patrick Lacy Madigan would of gone to the U.S.A abt 1852 Patrick Madigan and Michael Madigan were at Gabriels Gully, Otago in 1862. Patrick Lacy Madigan died 3rd October 1913 at "Long Plains" Takaka , Nelson Patrick Lacy madigan and wife Emily (Holyoake) also daughter Alice are buried at the Riwaka Cemetery.Patrick died 1913..Emily died 1932 and Alice died 1893.. At the time of Patricks death,he had been in N.Z for 50 years ( he would of arrived from Australia abt 1863.. Patrick Lacy Madigans parents were JOHN and MARGARET MADIGAN Patricks death certificate was signed by John D'Lacy Madigan, son, farmer at Riwaka.. OTHER MADIGAN,s NZ POST OFFICE DIRECTORY OF N.Z 1892/93 Madigan, Dennis... Totara Flat, West Coast EDMUND MADIGAN , an old boy from Lower Moutere School,
served with the N.Z Engineers during ww2. He was awarded the Military
Medal for gallantry in dealing with demolition charges, mines and booby
traps etc. |
