SAMARRIPAS, Herman M.

El Mirage -- Herman M. Samarripas, 51, who came here 15 years ago from Texas, died March 9, 1980. He was a farm worker. He is survived by his wife, Louise; children, Viola, Elvira, Lawanda, Herman R., David and Santos; father, Senon Samarripas; two sisters and six brothers. 3/14/1980.

SANDERS, John L.

Kearny -- John Lloyd Sanders, 63, who worked for Kennicott Copper Co 37 years, died Mar. 14, 1980, in St. Mary's Hospital, Tucson. Mr. Sanders came to Arizona 51 years ago from his native Arkansas. Beloved husband of Laveta J. Sanders; father of Mary L. Farley, Kearney, AZ, and Lynn Edward Sanders of Dallas, TX; two granddaughters, Tracy Farley and Sonia Sue Sanders; two grandsons, John C. Farley and Brent Sanders. Services conducted by James Powers, paster of the Sherwood Baptist Church of Phoenix. Interment Mountain View Memorial Gardens. 3/16/1980.

SANDOVAL, Felix T.

Felix T. Sandoval, 83, who worked for Southwest Forest Industries 43 years, died Oct. 10, 1980, in St. Luke's Hospital. He was born in COncho and came here in 1962. Survivors include children, Mary Baca, Elvera Padilla, Polly, Milo, George, Herman, Felix, Jr., Patrick, Nick and Jimmy; two brothers; 42 grandchildren. SANDY, John R.

John R. Sandy, 77, who had been an accountant for the former Phoenix firm of Murray & Murray 25 years and later 31 years for Lou Grubb Chevrolet, died Oct. 8, 1980. Mr. Sandy was born in Lamar, Nebraska, and came to Phoenix from Colorado in 1917. Survived by wife, Winnie; daughter, Bonnie Elder; three grandchildren; a sister and a brother. SAN MIGUEL, Maria DeJesus Abundez

Glendale -- Maria DeJesus Abundez San Miguel, 68, moved here 31 years ago from Texas and died March 25, 1980, in Maryvale Hospital. Husband, Fernando; children, Andrea Galvan, Junita Lonzo, Angelia Hernandez, Martin, Jesus, Fernando, Jr., and Johnny; 38 grandchildren. Mass was in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 5614 W. Orangewood. 3/26/1980.

SANTELL, Martin Jacob

Sun City -- Martin Jacob Santell, 80, a former music store operator who had been associated with the motion picture industry, died Sept. 27, 1980, in Boswell Memorial Hospital. Mr. Santell, 9431 Timberline Drive, had been a member of the Science of the Mind Church in Los Angeles and moved here in 1962 from Hacienda Heights, Calif. He was born in San Francisco. Surviving are his wife, Geneva; children, Shirlee and Richard; a brother; several grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Private services were arranged at Lundberg Golden Door Chapel. SARANDOS, Monica Jamie

Monica Jamie Sarandos, 3, was injured in a Valley auto accident and died March 27, 1980. Monica was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Parents, Alex and Sandra Sarandos; a sister; grandparents. 3/29/1980.

SAVAGE, Emmett Gordon

Wickenburg -- Emmett Gordon Savage, 87, a miner who lived here most of his life, died March 9, 1980, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Prescott. Survivors include a son, Emmett D. Services were at the First Presbyterian Church. Wickenburg Funeral Home made arrangements. 3/14/1980.

SCHAEFFER, Rose

Rose Margaret Schaeffer, 73, who came from Schenectady, N.Y., in 1958, died Oct. 5, 1980. Children, Margaret Haskin, Carolyn Witte, Phillip, Richard and John; seven grandchildren. Mass was in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. The Arizona Republic Tuesday, Oct. 7, 1980.

SCHAMBERGER, Robert J.

Services for Robert J. Schamberger, 22, a former member of the U. S. Navy who was employed by HJH Industrial Chemical, Inc., will be Saturday in Shadow Mountain Mortuary, 2350 E. Greenway and Cave Creek Road. Mr. Schamberger, 2709 W. Larkspur, was killed March 11, 1980, in an industrial accident where he worked. Glendale -- Herman A. Schell, 77, died March 22, 1980, in University of Arizona Medical Center. Mr. Schell moved here in 1976 from Blue Island, Illinois, and worked in a carpentry shop at Arizona Pioneer Living Museum. Before that, he was a self-employed painter 40 years. Wife, Edna; children, Marcia Carpenter, Jeanne Hopper, Trudi Schaefer, Andon and Herman, Jr.; 14 grandchildren. 3/26/1980.

Florence -- Lorraine A. Schewel, 57, a retired escrow officer, died Jan. 26, 1980, in Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix. She was born in Watertown, South Dakota, and came here 35 years ago. Husband, H. C. Schewel, and a sister. 1/27/1980.

SCHMITZ, John C.

Glendale -- John C. Schmitz, 74, a retired meat cutter who came to Arizona in 1960 from Chicago, died Jan. 26, 1980, in Doctors Hospital. World War II veteran, member of American Legion and Disable American Veterans. Son, Robert A.; five sisters and a brother. 1/27/1980.

SCHOENAUER, Edith

Maude Mae Gallger, 89, who came here from Oklahoma 46 years ago, died Sept. 30, 1980, in a Phoenix hospital. She was born in Missouri. She was a member of the 27th Ave Baptist Church. Survived by children Helen Leverett, Alma Bagley, Clearese Brown, Virginia McFarland, Jack and R. T.; a sister; a brother; 22 grandchildren. SCHONWALD, Flora

Mesa -- Flora Schonwald, 90, who was born in Iowa and came here 24 years ago from Virginia, died Oct. 3, 1980, in Mesa Lutheran Hospital. Mrs. Schonwald, 728 S. 86th Place, is survived by her husband, Paul J.; and two sisters, Hattie Williams and Maud Hale, both of Rhodes, Iowa. Arrangements by Larry C. Melcher Mortuary. SCHORNICK, Dr. Harry L.

Dr. Harry L. Schornick, 87, an osteopath and physician who practiced in Mesa, Prescott and Phoenix during his career, died Oct. 10, 1980. Dr. Schornick served on the Arizona Medical oard and in World War I. There are no known surivors. The Arizona Republic Monday, Oct. 13, 1980.

SCHRIMSHER, Nellie

Globe -- Nellie Schrimsher, 79, Globe, died Oct. 10, 1980, in a Mesa nursing home. She came to Arizona from Wagoner, Oklahoma, and is survived by nieces and nephews. Palmer Globe Mortuary. Graveside services at Resthaven Cemetery, Central Heights. The Arizona Republic Monday, Oct. 13, 1980.

SCHROEDER, Lelah

Lelah Schroeder, 95, came here from Ohio 30 years ago and died Sept. 30, 1980, in her home. Mrs. Schroeder had been a professor of child psychology at Columbia University and had co-authored a series of books used in testing reading skills. She received doctor's degrees in philosophy, psychology and education at Columbia University. Concluding services in Toledo, Ohio. Published in the Arizona Republic 10/3/1980.

SCHURMAN, Rebecca (Becky)

Scottsdale -- Rebecca Schurman, 23, was killed in an auto accident Oct. 12, 1980, near Sunflower. She graduated from Scottsdale High School in 1975 and worke as a cashier at Barb's Danish Style Bakery. Survived by parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester (Barbara) Schurman; a sister; four brothers; and two grandparents. 10/14/1980.

SCHWANBECK, Melouise

Memorial services for Melouise Schwanbeck, 67, who came here 60 years ago from Ohio and died March 12, 1980, in Phoenix Baptist Hospital, were in Grimshaw Chapel, 710 W. Bethany Home. Mrs. Schwanbeck, 6030 N. 22nd Ave., is survived by her husband, Raymond; children, Sue Ann Meyer, Melanie ROberts and Victor; a sister; and six grandchildren. SCOTT, Lewis G.

Winslow -- Lewis G. Scott, 98, a retired section foreman for the Santa Fe Railroad, died Oct. 8, 1980, at the Winslow Memorial Hospital. He was born in Oklahoma and moved to Winslow in 1921. Survived by wife, Pearle; son, John E.; daughter, Dorothy R. Fuller; six grandchildren. 11 Oct 1980

SCRYMIGER, Roy C.

Sun City -- Roy C. Scrymiger, 87, died Sept. 30, 1980, in St. Paul, MN, where he was visiting. He retired to Sun City in 1967 and was a member of the High Twelve Masonic Lodge. He was former president and board chairman of the Scrymiger & Osterholt Advertising Agency in Minneapolis. SEEGAN, Mildred

Mesa -- Mildred Seegan, 56, who formerly worked for Diamond's and Sears stores, died Sept. 30, 1980, in Mesa Lutheran Hospital. Services were in Melcher Mission Chapel, 6625 E. Apache Trail. Graveside services were in St. Francis Cemetery, 4800 E. Oak, Phoenix. Mrs. Seegan, 8916 E. Albany, came to Phoenix in 1956 from Minnesota. She is survived by her husband, Frank J.; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Halverson, and a brother. the Arizona Republic Thursday, October 2, 1980.

SEELY, George

George Seely, 59, a World War II Army veteran and auto mechanic, died March 23, 1980, in Phoenix Veterans Hospital. Mr. Seely moved here in 1961 from Indiana. He is survived by a daughter, Donna, and three grandchildren. Graveside services in Arizona Veterans Cemetery. 3/25/1980.

SEEVERS, S. J. "Sig"

Mesa -- S. J. "Sig" Seevers, 84, a World War I Army veteran who came here 21 years ago from Minneapolis where he was the Twin City manager of North West Underwriter, died Jan. 25, 1980, in Mesa Christian Home. He was a member of American Legion and Masonic Lodge. Survived by his wife, Belle. Published 1/28/1980.

SERNA, Modesta M.

Miami -- Modesta M. Serna, 81, who died Sept. 24, 1980, at Maywood, CA, moved to Miami in 1924 and to Maywood in 1970. Mrs. Serna was a native of Mexico. Survivors include sons, Delfino, Bobby, Trinidad and Teodoro; daughters, Aurora Berumen, Lydia Flores and Mary Lou Montes; 41 grandchildren. Miles Mortuary. Oct. 1, 1980.

SHALE, Dr. Rolla

Mesa -- Dr. Rolla Shale, 94, who retired to Mesa in 1959 from Helena, Montana, where he worked for the Veterans Administration, died Jan. 26, 1980. Dr. Shale graduated from Oberlin College, Oberlin, OH, and received his medical degree from John Hopkins Medical School; and a masters degree in public health from University of Michigan. SHAW, Allen N.

Prescott -- Allen N. Shaw, 71, who was an industrial arts teacher for the Glendale High School District until retiring and comeing here in 1975, died Oct. 9, 1980, in Yavapai Community Hospital. Mr. Shaw was born in Hedrick, Iowa, and graduated from the Iowa State Teachers College and earned a Master's degree from the University of Northern Colorado. He taught in Finchford, Iowa, and Grand Junction, CO, before moving to Glendale 19 years ago. Surviving are his wife, Margaret; sons, Robert and Richard; mother, Flossie Shaw; a sister and five grandchildren. Services were at Mountain View Cemetery, Prescott. SHEARER, Laura Lee

Mesa -- Services for Laura Lee Shearer, 88, a Trinity Baptist Church member, were in Melcher Chapel of the Roses, 43 S. Stapley Drive. Mrs. Shearer, 553 S. Fraser Drive, died Jan. 24, 1980, in her home. She came here 27 years ago from Indiana. SHERBO, Francis John

Francis John Sherbo, 45, who came to Phoenix in 1956 after serving in the Army in Korea, died March 25, 1980, in his home at Des Moines, Iowa, where he lived the past three months. Mr. Sherbo had been a subcontractor in the swimming pool business in Phoenix and worked parttime in security at Mr. Lucky's. Survivors include two sisters. Services were in McLarens Funeral Home in West Des Moines. 3/27/1980

SHERWOOD, Edith L.

Mesa -- Edith L. Sherwood, 76, who came to the Valley 40 years ago from Dodge City, Kansas, died March 13, 1980, in a Phoenix hospital. Mrs. Sherwood was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist Church. She is survived byher children, Darlene Ford, Margie Gooden and Gail; five grandchildren. Interment East Resthaven. 3/16/1980.

SHILKOSKI, Thomas Frank

Chandler -- Thomas Frank Shilkoski, 73, a carpenter and home builder in Phoenix from 1930 to 1960, died Jan. 22, 1980, in Chandler Community Hospital. Mr. Shifkoski {sic}, 200 E. Ivanhoe, served in World War I and moved to Phoenix 50 years ago from his native Cleveland. He had owned and operated the Stardust Motel in Chandler, was a member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 8, American Legion Post 35, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 720 and Polish-American Club in Phoenix. Survivors include his wife, Josephine C. and stepson, Edward Thomas Lucas. Rosary was in Bueler Mortuary Chapel, 14 W. Hulet. The Arizona Republic, Thursday, January 24, 1980.

SHIPMAN, Mamie Lucille

Mamie Lucille Shipman, 81, a homemaker, died Oct. 12, 1980, in Deer Valley Emergency Center. Mrs. Shipman was born in Monroe, Georgia, and came to Phoenix in 1934. Nephew, John P. Creach; nieces, Mrs. Joann Gibson and Linda Sue Creach. Graveside services conducted by Rev. James Hiatt were in East Resthaven Park. 10/15/1980.

SHIRLEY, James O.

Chandler -- Services for James O. Shirley, 90, who came to Arizona in 1910 from Oregon, will be today in Tempe Mortuary, 405 E. Southern. Mr. Shirley, 2302 W. Bentrupt, died March 9, 1980, in Mesa Lutheran Hospital. He had owned rental property in Tempe and formerly was a consignee for the Union Oil Co. for 15 years. Services for Allen Benjamin Sidaway, 66, who retired from Reynolds Metals in 1976, were in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4601 W. Encanto. Mr. Sidaway, 3728 W. Latham, died Oct. 2, 1980, in Maryvale Hospital He was born in Greene, Ohio, and came to Phoenix in 1950. In his church, he was a genealogical librarian in the Phoenix Capitol Ward. Survivors include his wife, Olive; three sons, Donald, Robert and Carey; two grandchildren; a sister, Edna Carpenter, and a brother, Wesley.
