RAMIREZ, John Paul

Pfc. John Paul Ramirez, 20, died May 13, 1967, in St. Joseph's Hospital. He was on leave here following his graduation from the U.S.Marine Corps Aviation School in Memphis, TN. A native of Phoenix, Pfc. Ramirez graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1966. He was a newspaper carrier for the AZ Republic and was voted the outstanding Phoenix member of the Catholic Youth Organization for 1965. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Constantino Ramirez; brother, Robert K.; sister, Mrs. Celia Canez; and grandmother, Mrs. Maria D. Telez, all of Phoenix. Mass of Requiem in Our Lady of Fatima Church. Burial in St. Francis Cemetery. 5/14/1967.

RAMOS, Lupe S.

Avondale -- Lupe S. Ramos, 13, died of a heart ailment Tuesday, May 16, 1967, in Avondale. He was a seventh-grade student at Avondale Elementary School. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pablo Ramos; six brothers, Martin, Paul, Faustino, Richard, John and Freddie; and a sister, Maria Ramos, all of Avondale. Mass of Requiem was in St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Burial in Glendale Memorial Cemetery. 5/19/1967.

RAMSEY, Eddie A.

71, retired from the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Navy veteran of World War I. He was born in Shade Gap, Pennsylvania. Wife, Lily; daughter, Mrs. Harold LETHGO of Smyrna, Georgia; son, Robert, of Yuma; a brother and a sister out of state. Masonic entombment in East Resthaven Cemetery, Phoenix. 8/22/1967.

RANDLE, Melvin W.

Mesa -- Melvin W. Randle, 68, died Fri., Sep. 8, 1967, in Dreamland Villa retirement community clubhouse. He was born in Stockton, Kansas, and moved to Arizona three years ago from Denver. He was a retired real estate salesman, a Mason, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include his wife, Mildred; a son, Kenneth, both of Pasadena, CA; a daughter, Mrs. Melva June WILLIAMSON of Denver; a sister, Mrs. Grace KORTUM of Mesa; two brothers and two sisters out of state; and six grandchildren. Services were in Mesa United Church of Christ, 1020 N. Horne. Entombment in Mountain View Memorial Gardens. 9/10/1967.

RAPSON, Charles M.

61, (also spelled "Papson"), was a native of Wyoming, Pennsylvania, and came to Winslow in 1943. He was a biology teacher. Wife, Mildred; son, Capt. William E. BASSATT; daughter, Caroline PETERNEL. Burial in Desert View Cemetery. 9/10/1967.

RAST, Annie T.

Annie T. Rast, 85, died Fri., May 13, 1967, in a Mesa nursing home. A member of the St. Francis Parish, Mrs. Rast came to Phoenix from Springfield, N.J., in 1955. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Katherine Geljack, of Phoenix; and two grandchildren. Requiem Mass was in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Burial in St. Francis Cemetery. 5/15/1967.

REDER, Winifred R.

Winifred R. Reder died Sat., May 13, 1967, in Phoenix General Hospital. She was born in Logansport, IN, and came to Phoenix from Indiana in 1939. For 15 years she was the cafeteria manager of the St. Mathews Catholic School. She retired eight years ago. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. C. W. (Jane) Perrault of Phoenix; and two grandchildren. Requiem Mass was in Simon & Jude Catholic Church. Burial in St. Francis Cemetery. 5/15/1967.

REED, Robert I.

Services for Robert I. Reed, 87, 25-year resident of Arizona who died Monday, August 7, 1967, in his home at 1132 E. Buckeye Road, were at Mortensen-Kings Funeral Home, 1020 W. Washington. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Mr. Reed was born in Casey, Illinois, and came here from Texas. He was a retired steamfitter and had worked in the Texas oil fields. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Margie Kimes of Brooks, Oregon; three sons, Elmo of Houma, Louisiana, James of Snyder, Texas, and Harley of Texas; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. REED, Ruth Lee

40, a native of Mesa, resided the past two years in Belmont, Calif. She died there. Husband, William C.; son, David, daughter, Lisa REED, all of Belmont; parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. H. RUCKER of Mesa; brothers, Roy, Louis, Robert, and Eldon RUCKER, all of Tucson. Burial in Mesa Cemetery. Published in the Arizona Republic 9/21/1967.

REEVES, Barbara

Barbara Reeves, 40, died Sep. 5, 1967, in Good Samaritan Hospital. She was born in Jonesb... and moved to Phoenix from Denver. Parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert REEVES of Phoenix survive. Mas off Requiem was at SS Simon & Jude Catholic Church. Entombment in St. Francis Mausoleum. 9/6/1967.

REEVES, Doris Esther

was born in Jensen Beach, Florida, and moved to Phoenix 13 years ago from Vallejo, California. Husband, Stewart; sons, Daniel REEVES and David VILLBORGHI; daughters, Kathleen REEVES and Mrs. Raymond JOHNSON; a niece and a nephew whom she reared, Naomi JONES and Donald JONES; brother, Charles STEINHAUSER; sister, Louise WHITE. Burial in Resthaven Cemetery, Glendale. 8/22/1967.

REMINGTON, Mary

97, came to Phoenix 48 years ago from Steamboat Springs, Colorado. She was born in Nevada. Daughters, Mrs. Lenn W. SEARCY of Phoenix and Mrs. C. A. LUEKENS of Steamboat Springs; son, George of Salinas, California. Published in the Arizona Republic 9/23/1967.

RENSEL, James Michael

15, a student of Crane School in Yuma, was a native of Erie, Pennsylvania. Parents, Mr. and Mrs. James RENSEL; brothers, Steven, Mark, Brian, and Kenneth; sister, Laura, all of Yuma. Published in the Arizona Republic 9/26/1967.

RESCHKE, Ida

79, a member of the Camelback Seventh-day Adventist Church, was born in Cleveland and moved to Arizona 14 years ago. Son, Elmer RESCHKE REDDING of Cleveland; daughters, Mrs. Clarence BRUNE and Mrs. Esther CROSS; two sisters and a brother. Burial in Cleveland. 8/22/1967.


RETTIG, Marilyn F.

Glendale -- Marilyn F. Rettig, 44, died Fri., Sep. 8, 1967, in Maryvale Hospital. She was born in Newton, Mass., and came to Glendale in 1962. A graduate of Boston University with a degree in engineering, she had worked 16 years as a hydrologist with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. She was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Air Force. Survivors include her husband, Melvin; and a daughter, Christine Ann, both of Glendale; her mother, Mrs. C. E. Fickett; and a sister, Teresa, both of Newtonville, MA. Burial in Resthaven Park. 9/10/1967.

RHOADES, Oliver

Services for Oliver Rhoades, 75, a real estate salesman for Snowflake Highlands Development Corp., were in A. L. Moore and Sons Mortuary, 333 W. Adams. Mr. Rhoades, 3022 W. Turney, was fatally injured in an auto accident Tuesday, August 29, 1967. He was a member of the Eastside Church of Christ and had sold insurance. Born in Jack County, Texas, he moved to Phoenix 11 years ago from Lamesa, Texas. Survivors include his wife, Maude J.; two daughters, Mrs. Verlyn Young of Phoenix and Mrs. Carl Williams of Lamesa; a sister and a brother, both in Lamesa; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Burial in Memory Lawn Cemetery. The Arizona Republic August 31, 1967.

RHODEN, Leonard Lee

Leonard Lee Rhoden, 28, who had operated a Texaco services station in Casa Grande the past three years, died Sunday, May 7, 1967, in St. Joseph's Hospital. Mr. Rhoden, 1629 E. Montebello, was born in Phoenix and attended North High School. He served in the Air Force four years. Services in Mercer Mortuary, 1541 E. Thomas. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard V. Thoden and a sister, Janice G. Rhoden, all of Phoenix; and a brother, James A. Rhoden of Scottsdale. The AZ Republic Tuesday, May 9, 1967.

RHODES, Mary Davis

Laveen -- Mary Davis Rhodes, 77, a resident here 56 years and a member of the Gila Crossing Presbyterian Church, died Thurs., Sept. 21, 1967, in Phoenix Indian Hospital. Mrs. Rhodes was born in Carlisle, PA. She is survived by her husband, Walter, Sr.; two daughters, Virginia Rhodes of Laveen and Mrs. Neely Zilliox. 9/23/1967.

RIAZA, Ester M.

Glendale -- Ester M. Riaza, 25, died of an illness Thurs., May 11, 1967, in Good Samaritan Hospital. Miss Riaza, 6730 N. 56th Ave., had been employed the past seven years as a sewing machine operator for the E.L. Gruber Co. She was born in Litchfield Park and attended Glendale schools. Survivors include her father, Ramon; two brothers, Eddie and Richard; a sister, Mary; and her grandmother, Mrs. Maria Riaza, all of Glendale. Mass of Requiem was said in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Burial in Resthaven Cemetery. 5/13/1967.

RICE, Minnie

Miss Minnie Rice, 76, who moved to Phoenix in 1959, died Tues., May 9, 1967, in Miller's Rest Home, 3424 N. 27th Ave. She was an apartment house owner in San Diego. She was a member of the Central Christian Church here. She was born in Ruthven, Iowa. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. C. W. Roland of Phoenix. Services and burial in Iowa Falls, Iowa. 5/11/196 7.

RIEGER, Clarence A.

Clarence A. Rieger, 68, a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 1967, in a Phoenix nursing home. Mr. Rieger, 888 W. Baseline, had worked for Mountain States Telephone Co. since moving here in 1926 from Florida. He retired in 1963. Services were in A. L. Moore & Sons Mortuary. Entombment in Memory Lawn Mausoleum. Mr. Rieger, a native of Manchester, Iowa, is survived by his wife, E. Maurine; two sons, Eugene F. of Denver and Gordon of Meriden, Connecticut; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Trenberth of Phoenix; a brother and a sister out of state; and five grandchildren. Family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Societe. The AZ Republic Tuesday, August 29, 1967.

RIGGINS, Rosie Lee

Services for Mrs. Rosie Lee Riggins, 38, a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church here, were in Universal Memorial Center, 1100 E. Jefferson. Mrs. Riggins, 2229 E. Pueblo, was killed in an auto crash Aug. 9, 1967, in Centerville, Texas, while vacationing. Born in Grapeland, Texas, she moved to Phoenix in 1952. Survivors include her husband, Lawrence; six children, Thelma, Charles, Emmie, John, Barbara and Mrs. Janice Acles, all of Phoenix; her father, George Bemby of Grapeland, and three brothers and four sisters out of state. Burial in Double Butte Cemetery, Tempe. The Arizona Republic Friday, Aug. 12, 1967.

RIGGS, Mary West

Mary West Riggs, an Arizona native, teacher and writer, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 1967, in San Miguel, California. She would have been 84 on September 7. Mrs. Riggs was born in Snowflake where her parents had settled at the call of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She taught school in Snowflake after being graduated from the University of Utah. She and her husband, Don F. Riggs, ran a livery stable, a stage line between Holbrook, Snowflake and Ft. Apache, and a hotel in Snowflake. Mrs. Riggs wrote plays and readings, taught public speaking and was a professional play director. She wrote two books, the most recent entitled, "The Five Branches of Love." She lived in Phoenix. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Veon R. Shupe of Phoenix and Mrs. Alice R. Harris of Eagle, Idaho; three sons, Don and Rockford, both of Phoenix, and Curtis Finch of Walnut Grove, Calif.; 25 grandchildren, and 66 great-grandchildren. Services at the Ninth Ward Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial in Memory Lawn Cemetery. Mortensen-Kings Funeral Home made arrangements. RILEY, Retha B.

, 61, of MOrenci, was born in Haskell, Texas, and came here 11 years ago. Husband, Virgil; son, Gerald of California; two brothers and three sisters. Burial in Clifton City Cemetery. 8/22/1967.

ROACH, Marshall Neal

Marshall Neal Roach, 68, a native of Glendale, died May 5, 1967, in Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born on an 80-acre ranch near Glendale and graduated from Glendale High School in 1916. He had been employed by the City of Glendale in 1935 and 1936. He was a veteran of World War I and had lived in Arizona all his life except for seven years in Oregon. He worked 26 years with Tovrea and Cudahy meat packing firms. Survivors include his wife, Ethel May; two sons, Robert N. of San Diego and Wayne of Flagstaff; three daughters, Mrs. Eileen Kestr of Hood River, OR, Mrs. Patricia Steward of Phx, Mrs. Marsha May Smith of Detroit; a sister, Mrs. Essie Wood of Phoenix; and 17 grandchildren. Burial in Memory Lawn Cemetery. 5/6/1967.
