EAKIN, Berlie Robart

Peoria -- Berlie Robart Eakin, 79, who had been employed by AZ Highways magazine from 1939 to 1946, died Sept. 25, 1967, in her home four miles west of Bell Road on 83rd Ave. Mrs. Eakin was a native of Reidsville, N. C., and had resided in Phoenix since 1902. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Franklin DALEY and Mrs. Lyle PATRICK; two sons, A. W. ROBART and Dink ROBART; a brother, William ISLEY, all of Phoenix; two sisters, Mrs. Pinkey GIST of Phoenix and Mrs. Loyal GREEN of Anaheim, CA; 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Published in the Arizona Republic 9/26/1967.

EARHART, Raymond

Tucson -- Raymond Earhart, 88, an Ohio native, died Monday, May 8, 1967, in Elks Hospital. Mr. Earhart came to Arizona in 1906 and settled in the Patagonia area where he was a merchant and mine developer. He served two terms as county sheriff, two terms as county treasurer, and one term as a state representative. In 1920 and 1921 he was state treasurer. 5/10/1967.

EBERSOLD, Mary Lee

EDELEN, Joseph Hubert

Prescott -- Joseph Hubert Edelen, 82, died Thurs., Aug. 17, 1967, at Veterans Administration Hospital here. Mr. Edelen was a veteran of World War I and was a retired merchant in the grocery business. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Isabel EDELEN of Guadalajara, Mexico; a brother and a sister out of state. Burial in Lebanon, Kentucky. 20 August 1967

EDWARDS, William B.

Scottsdale -- William B. Edwards, 63, died Fri., Aug. 25, 1967, at Good Samaritan Hospital. Mr. Edwards was born in Tennessee and moved to Arizona 10 years ago from Long Beach, CA. He was a member of the Scottdale Baptist Church and had been employed the past eight years with Pacific Bookkeepers. Surviving are his wife, Willetha; a daughter, Mrs. Weldell Gladish of Los Angeles, CA; two brothers and a sister out of state and two granddaughters. Burial in Green Acres Cemetery. 27 August 1967

EGBERT, Elbert F.

Elbert F. Egbert, 81, died Sunday, May 7, 1967, in North Mtn Hospital. Mr. Egbert had been employed at Paradise Chapel before retiring in 1960. He was born in Breckenridge, MO, and moved to Phoenix from there 13 years ago. He was a member of Sunnyslope Christian Church. Survivors include his wife, Caroline; a son, Gordon of Greensboro, NC; a daughter, Mrs. Carpenter of San Diego; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Cremation followed services in Paradise Chapel, 3934 E. Indian School. 5/8/1967.

EHLERS, Gus

Gus Ehlers, 61, a stonemason who moved here three years ago from Stamford, Connecticut, died Tuesday in Doctors Hospital. Mr. Ehlers, 3836 W. Alta Vista, a native of Hamburg, Germany, is survived by his wife, Bernadine; a daughter, Mrs. Betty Burrows, both of Phoenix; three sons, Rudolph and Don, both of Phoenix, and William of Fairfield, Connectictue; two sisters out of state; and five grandchildren. Services will be tomorrow in Mercer Mortuary, 1541 E. Thomas. Friends may call there today. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Published in The Arizona Republic Thursday, August 31, 1967.

EIGHMY, J. Irwin

Mesa -- J. Irwin Eighmy, 71, a retired salesman who moved here five years ago from McPherson, Kansas, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 1967, in Mesa Southside Hospital. Mr. Eighmy, 41 W. 10th Ave., was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mesa. He was born in Bedford, Iowa. Services were in Meldrum Mortuary, 52 N. Macdonald. Burial in Mesa City Cemetery. Survivors include two sons, John C., of Mesa and James I. of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; four daughters, Mrs. Eileen Sandlin, Mrs. Doris Dobbins and Mrs. Betty Ethetton, all of Fort Worth, and Mrs. Martha Campbell of Atlantic, Iowa; a brother out of state; 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. ELKINS, Charles James

Private services for Charles James Elkins, 2, will be today in Whitney and Murphy Funeral Home. The child was the son of Mrs. Joy Elkins, 1123 E. Sierra Vista Drive. He drowned in the family pool Saturday. He was born in Phoenix. Other survivors include a sister, Debra; a grandmother, Mrs. Harriet Obermiller, both of Phoenix; and his grandfather, Paul Obermiller of Denver. The Arizona Republic Tuesday, May 2, 1967.

69, Prescott, came here in 1960 from Spokane, Washington. He was born in Hunters, Washington. Wife, Lucille, of Prescott; sons, Jerry E. of Othello, Washington, Charles F. of Kent, Washington; sister and grandchildren out of state. Burial in Opportunity, Washington. 9/6/1967.

ELLIS, Melvin

32, was born in Texas and moved to Phoenix in 1955 from Paris, Texas. Wife, Gloria; sons, Kenneth and Broderick; daughter, Katherine; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert ELLIS; sisters, Emma JACKSON and Mary ELLIS and Arzella ELLIS; brother, Hollis ELLIS. Burial in Double Butte Cemetery, Tempe. 9/8/1967.

ELLISON, Roberta (Birdie) Manda

Casa Grande -- Roberta (Birdie) Manda Ellison, 78, who came to Arizona in 1940, died Saturday, May 13, 1967, in Hoemako Cooperative Hospital. She was born in Louisiana and had lived in Casa Grande for 21 years. Survived by a daughter Bonnie DONNAHUE of Casa Grande; brother, James L. GILES of Duncan; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Services were in the Christian Church Center. Burial in Mountain View Cemetery. 5/15/1967.

ELMORE, Donald

Buckeye -- Donald Elmore, 19, a Marine corporal who was killed in Vietnam two weeks ago, was a native of Buckeye. He was a 1966 graduate of Buckeye High School. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John ELMORE, and two brothers, David and Daniel, all of Buckeye. Services were in First Southern Baptist Church. Military services were held at graveside in Hazelton Cemetery. 14 August 1967

ELPHINSTONE, Minnie

Minnie Elphinstone, 83, died Thurs., Aug. 31, 1967, in Phoenix General Hospital. Mrs. Elphinstone was a past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star and was a Lutheran church member in Chicago. She moved to Phoenix in 1962. Her husband, Robert, died here August 24. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy BETTIN and Mrs. Bernice WROBEL, both of Chicago and Mrs. Ruth GORGE of Phoenix; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services and burial were in her native Chicago. 9/2/1967.

ELPHINSTONE, Robert Harry

Robert Harry Elphinstone, 78, a former machinist for the Northwest Railroad in Chicago, died Aug. 24, 1967, in Phoenix General Hospital. Mr. Elphinstone, 3714 E. Amelia, had been a member 50 years of a Masonic lodge in his native Chicago. He moved to Phoenix five years ago. Survivors include his wife, Minnie; three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Gorge of Phoenix, Mrs. Dorothy Bettin and Mrs. Bernice Wrobel, both of Chicago; a brother, John, in Florida; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services and burial in Chicago. 25 August 1967

EMBREY, Joseph Carl

Carl Embrey, 75, died July 28, 1967, in a local hospital. Mr. Embrey, of Kansas City, Kansas was passing through Phoenix on vacation when he became ill. Survivors include three sons, Ariel of Spokane, WA, Lester of Kansas City, MO, and Winifred of Bakersfield, CA. Graveside services were at Double Butte Cemetery in Tempe. 5 August 1967
