Little is known about Andreas SCHANZ. He was born about 1836 in Austria probably in Galicia and most likely passed away there sometime after 1860 and before June 1878.

Andreas Schanz was married probably in Galicia, Austria about 1855-1856 to Maria "Philipina" STAAB / STAUB / STAUP. She was born 19 Jul 1837, in Austria on 1 Jan 1882 (daughter of Jakob STAAB and Maria KOCH). Her second marriage was to Daniel PORTH about 1872 probably in Austria but possibly across the border in Bukovina and they had at least four more children. Altogether she reported that she had 11 children with only 6 being alive in the 1900 Federal Census. She died 27 Dec 1928, in Dallas Co., TX, and was buried: 27 Dec 1928 in northeastern Dallas, Dallas Co., TX, at Restland Memorial Park in Section K, Block I, Space 4.

He married 5 JUN 1879, probably in Austria, Anna RUCKRICH / RICKERICH born 5 Jun 1862, Augustdorf, Galicia, Austria, on 8 Aug 1891, Texas, baptized by F. J. Shdoin, died 21 Jul 1918, Longworth, Fisher Co, TX, buried: Longworth, Fisher Co, TX, Longworth Cemetery. Michael died 6 Feb 1940, nr Gotebo, Washita Co., OK, buried: 9 Feb 1940, Salem Cemetery, outside Gotebo, OK.



Bertha SCHANZ was also know as Pauline Barbara SCHANZ by another researcher who is one of her descendants. She was born on 9 Jun 1858, in Austria and married about 1882, probably in Austria, Henry HELD, who was born 17 May 1852, in Galicia, Austria and died 09 Sep 1926.. Bertha died 18 Aug 1951, Dallas, Dallas Co., TX, and was buried: 20 Aug 1951 next to her husband at Restland Memorial Park, in NE Dallas, Dallas Co., TX.



Caroline SCHANZ born 1861, married Franz Josef Czarowitz. Caroline died about 1893 at the young age of 32.



We know that she had more Schanz children and will be adding there names as they are found. However, these children did not survive past childhood.





Margaretha also known as: Marguerite PORTH was born on 20 Jun 1873, in Austria. She never married and worked many years for the family of Mike H. Thomas. She died on 11 Sep 1928, in Collin Co., TX, and was buried: 12 Sep 1928, in Grove Hill Cemetery. It is uncertain where this Cemetery is located but it might be in Dallas. Variations of her name were used in different documents. 1900 Census: Margaretha, 1910 Census: Margareta, 1920 Census: Margarete 2 deeds in Dallas: Marguerite, death certificate: Margaret.



Theresia Christina PORTH was born on 26 Jul 1876, Stanesti, Galicia, Austria. She was baptized on 1 Dec 1889 and was listed as Christine Porth & Christina Porth in the church directory. This might indicate that her name was Christina Theresia Porth and that she just went by her middle name. She married about 1893, probably in Coryell Co., TX, Martin SELZER, who was born on 5 Jun 1873, in Alt Fratautz, Austria(son of Martin SELZER and Amalia HUBER). He was baptized on 1 Dec 1889. He died 29 Jun 1949 and was buried: 01 Jul 1949. Theresia died 13 May 1940 and was buried on 15 May 1940. They are both buried in Section C of Restland Memorial Park, NE Dallas, TX.



Carl Daniel PORTH was born on 2 Mar 1879, in Austria. On 8 Oct 1891, he was baptized. He married Barbara Roth who was born on 29 Jan 1886 in Hungary. She died Aug 1976, prob. Dallas Co., TX. Carl died 1956. They are both buried in Restland Memorial Park, in NE Dallas, TX, in Section C.



She probably had more PORTH children and we will be adding there names as they are found. However, these children did not survive past childhood.
