Bay City is located about 100 miles north of Detroit and sits at the foot of the Saginaw Bay. The city has a population of a little over 45,000 and is part of a larger Tri-City community that includes the cities of Saginaw and Midland. The Saginaw River flows through the heart of Bay City providing a natural resource for large ocean freighters to traverse, boating enthusiast, and for fishing. The down town consists of two business districts, an east side and west side that are connected by several draw bridges.

Bay City retains many aspects of its early history associated with the lumbering industry that grew rapidly and raised the population of the community. Center Avenue on the east side of the city runs east and west from the edge of the city to the east side downtown district. This historical district is lined with the mansions of those who made their wealth as a result of the early lumbering and shipping building industries.
