Heritage: Articles Library, Essay

Editor's note: "I was introduced to Bernie Sadowski through a Polish newsletter group that we both belong to. I have always enjoyed reading Bernie's postings to the group. His has a unique writing style that helps the reader to visualize the topic at hand. One day, I finally decided to send Bernie an email asking if he would be willing to share some of his stories with the viewers of Ancestry - The Polish Connection. I am extremely pleased that Bernie agreed to do so. With Bernie's permission, we present, "Bernie's Taste of Poland". -- Marvin Kusmierz, Webmaster

"Hi, I'm Bernie"

Bernie's Grandpa Pauls's home
This photo has in the background the actual 8 x 10 white home my maternal grandpa Paul was born and lived until he immigrated to USA. The home was built c. 1875 in Zdziary.

It is very nice day in Seattle, Washington, the sun is shining and I am in wonderful spirits to write you some information about me and my family and to invite you to share my experiences in tracing my genealogy. My ancestors are all in Poland.

My wife, Rita, has her ancestors in Italy. We are trying to locate her relatives someplace near Montefalcone, Italy. Rita has seven brothers and sisters living in Michigan, California and Louisiana.

My brother, Robert Sadowski, is married with no children. He teaches in the University of Scranton, in Pennsylvania. Robert has a Ph.D. in Radio & TV Broadcasting and is currently Chairman of the Department of Communications.

My Children are:

    1. Theresa who has two daughters (Ashley and Jennifer).
    2. Christine who has two sons (Sean and Stephan).
    3. Sharon who has two daughters (Nicole and Megan).

My children live nearby so we can visit on special occasions. They all work and have their own homes.

I moved my family to Seattle Washington many, many years ago to study at the University of Washington. We loved the ocean and mountains so much that we decided to remain here forever. I am now retired on disability. I am blind in one eye and I have other eye ailments which prevent me from teaching. So I stay home and work on my computer and help my wife with home chores. I help my grandchildren with their homework sometimes when they need assistance. I like to grow flowers in the summer. I also like to watch TV and read books.

My major activity is research on our family roots. I actually embarked on this project after Alex Haley wrote his book, Roots. I work at this full-time now that I am retired. The culmination to these years of work came the summer of 2001 when I went to Poland, my homeland, to meet my family.

This is my story.........
