Tomah Indian Industrial School (Historic Asylums)

Tomah Indian Industrial School

aka Army Air Force Radio Technical School, VA Hospital

Tomah, Wisconsin

The "Historic Asylums" web site is focused on historic mental health institutions. However,a few historic facilities of other types, such as this United States Federal Government boarding school for Native Americans which became a VA hospital, are also included.

Located on the north side of Tomah, Wisconsin. Government documents in 1922 refer to the school having recently been destroyed by fire at that time. The school site later in 1947 became the home of the Tomah VA Hospital (Veterans Administration). A VA document from 2001 identifies 17 Indian School buildings at the site in Tomah as being important historic buildings.

Now called the Tomah Veterans Affairs Medical Center, it has 600+ beds and specializes in psychiatry, rehabilitation and extended care for war veterans.
