Tate Cemetery

This cemetery is located on the farm of Raymond Maness, east of Hickman Bluff Road and NW of Lavaca. Mr. Maness cleaned this cemetery and put a chain link fence around it. His Grandfather, Greenville Spencer Manes is buried here. Greenville Manes was married seven times. Raymond Manes took H. E. Huber, Dorothy (Graham) Bittle, Madge Stoiuffer and Sue Clark here on October 26, 1995. South of here in the brush is a slave cemetery. Mr. Maness stated that when he was a boy there were about twelve graves marked by rocks with just a first name and a year carved into the rock. Only one grave is visible now. He thinks that souvenir hunters pulled up the rocks and carried them away.

The sandstone slabs that cover several of these gravesites
are unique to this cemetery from any in the county.
