Red Oak Cemetery

Photos & Listings submitted by Jack W. James

Located in Lavaca near the northeast corner of the crossroads of Utah Ranch Road and Highway 253.

Red Oak Cemetery is where all African-Americans were buried in the early days of the county and area's history. A one-room school house and church once stood beside this cemetery in the grove of tall blackjack oak trees. There are approximately 25 tombstones visible but more likely beneath the oak leaves that are scattered on the property..
