What is Randolph County?

Arkansas was a part of the District of New Madrid. It became the Territory of Missouri. Arkansas split from the Missouri territory in 1819 into the five original Arkansas counties: Lawrence, Pulaski, Clark, Hempstead and Arkansas were formed. Randolph became a separate county in1835 as part of the Arkansas Territory. In 1836 it was a county in the State of Arkansas. So to answer your question, anything after 1819 and prior to 1835 would have been in Lawrence County. Elizabeth

Demunn township is now the town of Pocahontas. Wiley township was created from Demunn in
1868/1873. Demunn/Pocahontas is surrounded by Birdell to the west, Roanoke to the south, and Shiloh to the north. I can't make out what's to the east of Pocahontas, looks like Skaggs and Sharum. Wiley township is south of Pocahontas/Demunn and surrounded by Manson to the north, Bristo to the west, Elnora to the south and O'kean to the east. Bridgette

Kings Mills is East and a little north of Ash Flat, Ark. About 8 miles east. I was there about 3 yrs ago, only the old large home that used to be a Store in the 1890's and the old-old School house (about to fall down) Jay

Just a reminder that those of you who have very early ancestors in Randolph County need to post a message on the Lawrence County page also - since it was Lawrence Co. in the early days. The query page address is: https://sites.rootsweb.com/~arlawren/surn1998.htm. It also wouldn't hurt to post a query on the New Madrid, MO homepage either - since Lawrence Co. was once part of New Madrid Co. during the Missouri Territory days. Regards, Nan

My fathers family is from Peach Orchard AR. I could be wrong about this but I do not believe there are any cemeteries IN Peach Orchard. Peach Orchard is now a very tiny little town. My family has all been buried at the Pirtle Cemetery. Pirtle was once a freewill Baptist church. The church has now burned and all that is left is the cemetery. The cemetery itself is in Clay County, not Randolph. Peach Orchard is shown on my Rand McNally guide as simply Orchard. It is on Hwy 90 abit 10-15 miles south of Corning, It lies just a few miles, (maybe 4-5) south of a small town called Knobel. It is about the same distance north of another small town called Delaplaine which is just over the Greene Co line. And Peach Orchard is almost due east of Pocahontas which is in Randolph Co, about 15-20 miles.Gena
