BEAVER LAKE CEMETERIES

   The Little Rock, Arkansas District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was in charge of the relocation of cemeteries from their original locations to prevent inundation by water impounded from Beaver Dam.  Personnel of the Little Rock District, in anticipation of the historical interest the relations might develop, placed copies of the official records of all seven relocations in care of the County Clerk of Benton County at the courthouse in Bentonville, Arkansas.  We wish to thank the Army Corps of Engineers, the County Clerk, and the Trustees of the relocated cemeteries for their cooperation, as well as the volunteers who copied the inscriptions from the stones.

   A list showing the old cemeteries and the site of the relocations follows.  The names of the deceased who had private removals are included. We were unable to find the burial places of all of these people, but some were in Ruddick, Rambo, and the Benton County Memorial Park. Many graves were unknown, but were moved and are marked UNKNOWN by flat markers in the relocated cemeteries. Others, whose names were known, but not the dates, are also marked with flat stones. A map made by the Corps of Engineers shows the area of the cemeteries and written in are other locations. These graves were moved in 1961 – 1963.
