Queen, George Paul - George Paul Queen, M.D., passed away peacefully on October 7, 2007. Dr. Queen was born on July 30, 1931, in Port Arthur, Texas. He was raised in Plainview, Arkansas, by his Aunt Jess and Uncle Brode Law. Dr. Queen proudly served as a jet fighter pilot in the United States Marine Corp before being honorably discharged as a major. He received undergraduate degrees from the University of Arkansas in Zoology and Chemistry. Dr. Queen worked as a crop duster in Shaw, Mississippi, while attending medical school. He earned his medical degree at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in 1962. After an internship in Memphis, Tennessee, he began private general medical practice in Hot Springs in 1963. He was certified by the American Board of Family Practioners, a member of the American Medical Association, the Arkansas Medical Society and a member of the Elks Lodge. Dr. Queen provided service as the plant physician for Reynolds Metals Company and National Rejectors for many years and maintained a medical practice in Hot Springs for 42 years. Dr. Queen was an enthusiastic fisherman, boater, gardener and traveler. His love of medicine and desire to help others was evident to all of his patients, family and friends throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his Uncle Brode J. Law and Aunt Jess Law, his parents George Hugh Queen and Hazel Belle Felix and lifelong friend, Darrell Sims.
Dr. Queen is survived by his wife, Nancy Queen of Hot Springs, his children Lori Soutee of Crane, Missouri, Karen Mourad of Carefree, Arizona, Kay Lynn and Ron Harris of Hot Springs, Valerie and Mike Bearden of Hot Springs, Paula Riley of Texarkana, Arkansas, George and Kevan Queen of Bryant, Arkansas, Delta Queen of Hot Springs and Sara Queen of Hot Springs; 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He is also survived by one brother Boots Wadley of California and his special friend and nurse of 42 years, Wanda Sallee.
...Services will be held at Hot Springs Baptist Church on Thursday, October 11, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Lamar Trieschmann and Pastor Mike Pounders officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.
Pallbearers will be Hiram Cooper, Thomas Cooper, Dr. Richard Gardial, Dr. James Gardner, Dr. Thomas H. Hollis, Sr., Donald Keck, Dr. Blu Stough, and John Wolf.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Heritage Physicians, VMA 124 USMC Fighter Pilot Squadron, Wayne and Helen Ball, Dr. Dow Stough, Dr. James Arthur, Randy Fale, Dr. Martin Koehn, Jaime Fernandez, St. Josephs Home Health and Arkansas Hospice. Memorials may be made to the Dr. George Queen Memorial Fund, Charitable Christian Medical Clinic, 133 Arbor Street, Hot Springs, AR, 71901.
