Maddox, Edsel D. - Colorado Springs, Colorado - Edsel D. Maddox, 76, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, formerly of Hot Springs, died Thursday, May 10, 2007, in Colorado Springs.
Born February 4, 1931, in Hot Springs to Carl F. and Dorothy D. Jackson Maddox, he was retired from the Air Force Academy and Peterson Air Force Base as Chief Master Sergeant.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Gloria G. "Jerry" Hester Maddox; one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Gary Baucum of Long Beach, California; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Danny and Denise Maddox of Glen Allen, Virginia, and Douglas Maddox of Miami, Florida; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Lonnie Wagner; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Tony and Liz Maddox, Roger and Pat Maddox and Tommy Maddox; nieces; and nephews.
A memorial service with private burial was held on Monday in the Shrine of Remembrance "American the Beautiful" Chapel of Roses.

Maddox, Margaret Cash - Margaret Maddox, 69, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, passed away on June 15, 2007.
She was born on May 29, 1938, in Hot Springs, to the late Doyle Calvin Cash and Ona Lucille Herring Cash. She was a retired nurse at Levi Hospital and a member of the Arkansas Nurses Association. She enjoyed sketching, poetry, swimming, horseback riding, and dancing. Margaret was much loved by her many friends, co-workers and patients she cared for during her nursing career. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, especially her family.
She is survived by her husband, John Maddox, a high school sweetheart with whom she reunited later in life; a son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Lisa Burch of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a daughter, Carla Burch Brown of Hot Springs; a stepson and daughter-in-law, the Rev. Dr. Darrel and Carla Maddox of West Siloam Springs, Oklahoma; a stepdaughter, Sheila Maddox of Nashville, Tennessee; a brother, Morris Cash of Hot Springs; two grandchildren, Kiley and Abigael Burch; twp step-grandchildren, Justin Maddox and Crystal Machabee; one step-great-grandchild; nieces, nephews, step-nieces and step-nephews.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Hot Springs Funeral Home Chapel Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Benfer officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, Hot Springs Funeral Home.
Burial will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Sonny Thomas, Orville Poole, Don Harris, Dick Holden, Dan Clinton and Ron Fondren.

Maner, Dena Mae Priest - Dena Maner, born September 3, 1932, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, peacefully and pleasantly passed away on April 2, 2011, in her Irving, Texas, home.
She was a devoted Christian and wife of 56 years to retired Navyman, Charles Z. Maner.
Survived by her husband, Charles; daughters, Joy Underwood and husband Brent, Ginger Butts and husband Larry; son, David Maner and wife Laura; a sister, and cherished by her five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren who knew her as Nee-Nee.  [from the Sentinel-Record, April 20, 2011, page 9A]  [Class of 1950]

Maner, Robert J. - Robert J. Maner, 83, lifelong resident of Hot Springs, Arkansas, died Tuesday, February 19, 2013. He was born August 7, 1929, to the late Carl J. and Nellie Rogers Maner.
Bob spent over forty-five years running the family flooring business in Hot Springs and Garland County but still found some time for his favorite hobby – fishing. He never met a stranger and was well known for his kind and loving reputation. Bob's passion was his family as he demonstrated the spirit of kindness and unconditional love to all he came in contact with. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, wife of fifty-two years Martha and sister Patty Adams.
He leaves behind a host of family and friends that he loved and cherished. Bob is survived by his wife, Irasema Maner; daughter Suzanne Moss; best friend and brother Martin Maner; grandchildren Ashley Moss Scott and Ryan Moss; and great-grandchildren Parker, Peyton and Payne Scott all of Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Visitation will be from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home. Service will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home with Rev. Lacy Sellars officiating.

Martin, Marilyn J. Davis - Marilyn J. Davis Martin, 75, of Joplin, Missouri, formerly of Fayetteville, died Monday, April 14, 2008, at Joplin Healthcare Center.
She was born May 29, 1932, at Hot Springs, Arkansas, the daughter of Pete and Edith Sanders Davis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Martin.
She was a school teacher at Asbell Elementary School, retiring after 26 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Fayetteville.
She is survived by: three sons: Bruce Martin and his wife Penny of Edmond, Oklahoma, Brian Martin and his wife Joyce of Frisco, Texas, Brent Martin and his wife Debbie of Wichita, Kansas; a daughter: Melodie Dennis and her husband Audie of Webb City, Missouri; a brother: Gilbert Davis and his wife Janet of Mayflower, Arkansas; a cousin: Sandra Cash and her husband Robert of Hot Springs, Arkansas; seventeen grandchildren: Christopher Martin, Jennifer Martin, Kellie Martin, Bricin Martin and her husband Jonathan, David Martin, Brady Martin, Jaymeson Brown, Chris Hernandez, Brandon Martin, Alyssa Martin, Sara Hernandez, Aaron Hernandez, Ashley Pierce and her husband Reid, Amber Dennis, Ariel Dennis, Asher Dennis and Clayton Dennis; her step-mother: Billie Davis of Hot Springs. Mathews, Mary Lee Humphreys - Mary Lee Mathews, 70, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2003, in Fort Worth, Texas.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association for Stroke or First United Methodist Church Mission Fund.
Mary Lee Humphreys Mathews was born April 3, 1932, in Hot Springs. She grew up during the depression near her grandfather's dairy farm.  After moving to "town" in the ninth grade, she graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1950. In 1954, she received her BA from the University of Arkansas, majoring in history and Spanish. Her love of history led to a love of travel and Mary Lee enjoyed traveling all over the world with her husband, Paul, and other dear friends. She also loved gardening and cooking and often shared the fruits of her labor with her family and friends.
Mary Lee dedicated many years to the Tarrant County Medical Society Auxiliary, serving as president in 1975-1976, and as their representative to the Texas Medical Association and its auxiliary. Her dedication to women and children led to positions on the Childhood and Youth Committee, Public Health Projects Committee, School Health Committee and Nutrition Committee, among others.
Mary Lee nurtured and loved three children, seven grandchildren, 14 nieces and nephews, and her three "favorite" sisters. She loved spending time at the ranch where she and Paul fished, gardened and entertained friends and family. Her green thumb grew countless tomatoes for sharing.
Survivors include a son, Paul W. Mathews III and wife, Amy, of Coppell; daughters, Debra Mathews Brown and husband, Glenn, of Fort Worth and Karen Mathews Hagseth and husband, Paul, of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Garrett and Emily Brown, Paul, Mary Katherine and Lauren Hagseth, all of Fort Worth, and Haley and Colin Paul Mathews of Coppell; sisters, Sally Beckman of Granbury, Texas, Martha Alexander of Fort Worth and Susan Northern of Fort Worth; and 14 nieces and nephews. Mattar, Phillip Selim - Credola, Alabama - Phillip S. Mattar, 70, of Creola, Alabama, died Sunday, March 13, 2005.
Born November 24, 1934, at Hot Springs to George and Lou Mattar, he attended Western Military Academy and Creola Assembly of God Church, was a U.S. Air Force Korean War and Vietnam veteran and in the TV business. He was predeceased by one brother, George Mattar.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Mattar of Creola; one son, Larry Mattar of Mississippi; one stepson, Donnie Ray Burt Sr. of Washingto County, Alabama; two grandchildren; and one aunt, Louise Whidden of Hot Springs.
The service was Monday in Serenity Funeral Home chapel, Mobile, Alabama.

McClard, Joe - Our precious Joe McClard, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, is laughing with the angels.
On October 9, 2013, he left his earthly home for his eternal one with his Savior, Jesus Christ. He was born on July 11, 1943, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, to J. D. and Lois McClard.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of fifty-two years Dolores McClard; son Scott McClard and girlfriend Shannon Wynn; daughter Tracy Moss and husband Michael; four grandchildren, Austin and Kendall Moss and Alex and Rachel McClard.
After attending Greenwood and Hot Springs Junior and Senior High, Joe went straight to work in the family business. Other than being gone while in the National Guard, he has lived his entire life enjoying everything Hot Springs has to offer.
Joe loved life and was a friend to all. Presidents and celebrities were no more important than childhood friends or bar-be-que customers. Never too busy for a joke, a story or a handshake, Joe was always waving someone back to his spot on the block. Although his passions were horse racing and golf – nothing was more important to Pops than his grandkids. They were and will always be the best part of his life.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Caring Place of Hot Springs or the Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association.
We want to give a special thanks to Barbara and Jon Pool, Rex and Carolyn Rowell and Judy Wehunt for all their love, care, and support throughout Joe’s long illness.

McCully, Eva Burlene "Bo" Parker - Burlene “Bo” McCully of Hot Springs, Arkansas died Monday, December 20, 2010.  She was born June 20, 1924 in Hot Springs to the late Lena Rowell Parker and Burl Parker. Burlene was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and a lifelong Christian.  In later years she also attended Sunshine Nazarene Church. Burlene was a loving wife, mother and grand mother.  She had a kind and generous heart and a good sense of humor.  “Bo” always had a smile and a story to tell.  She had a great many friends and relatives and was loved by all.  She will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Haskell “Hack” McCully; her son, Buddy McCully; her daughter, Patty McCully; and her two brothers, Buster Parker and Carlis Parker. She is survived by her three grand daughters, Melissa “Missy” McCully of Hot Springs, Heather (Tim) Patton of Edmond, Oklahoma and Holly McCully of Longmont, Colorado; four great grand children, Bailey Dora, Autumn Washburn, Veronica Patton and Jack Patton all of Oklahoma. Visitation will be 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM Wednesday at Hot Springs Funeral Home.  Services will be 2:00 PM Thursday at Hot Springs Funeral Home with Reverend J.B. McCully, Mary Elizabeth Branch - Mary Elizabeth Branch McCully, 88, of Hot Springs, died Sunday, August 11, 2013. She was born January 26, 1925, to Zachary Branch and Eura Mason Branch. After graduating from Hot Springs High School in 1943, she worked at a defense plant in Kentucky until the end of the war. At age 20, she began her career at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Hot Springs as an operator and later a network administration clerk until her retirement after almost 40 years of dedicated service. She continued to be a proud member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
In 1948, she married her true love James K. McCully, becoming his "guardian angel" for almost 65 years. She was the dearly beloved mother of Nancy McCully Shipp and James K. McCully Jr., teaching them to lead their lives following her extraordinary Christian example. As a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church for over 50 years, she had served as church clerk and children's Sunday School teacher. Well-known for her loving devotion in the support of her family from an early age, she will also be remembered for her sweet spirit toward all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her youngest brother Paul Branch, and her cousins Mary Kay Mason Pyron and Gene Mason, who spent their younger years as part of her immediate family and under her guidance as the oldest child, a role she repeated throughout her life in caring for others—family and friends.
In addition to her husband and children, she leaves behind her loving brother, Zachary Branch Jr. and his wife Betty; sister-in-law, Wanda Branch; brother-in-law, Howard McCully; sister-in-law, Audrey McCully; son-in-law, George Shipp and several nieces and nephews.
The family thanks Dr. John Featherston, Caregiver Quin with Barbara's Golden Years, Chaplain Kathy Reed, Gentiva Home Health, Garland Rehab, and Crown Trace Villa for their kindness to her. Honorary pallbearers are Warren Pittman, Mike Karber, Mike Branch, and Alan Story.

McDougal, Jim - Jim McDougal, 66, Hot Springs, passed away Thursday, January 3. He travelled the world as a computer scientist and worked for software companies in Austin, Texas for 15 years. Jim attended First Baptist Church and was a member of the Class of 1964 at Hot Springs High School.
He is preceded in death by his father, Wayne McDougal.
Jim is survived by his mother, Eddie McDougal, of Hot Springs; special friends David Lockwood, Bill Clinton, Mike Rogers and Anita Hunter; and a host of friends and classmates.
Visitation will be at First Baptist Church at 10:30 a.m., Friday. Memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Brother John McCallum officiating.

McKinney, Abner Donald - Abner Donald McKinney, 76, a resident of The Dalles, Oregon, died at home Thursday, August 29, 2013. He was born March 16, 1937, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, to Ira and Lois (Hitchcock) McKinney. He was raised and educated in Arkansas, graduating from Hot Springs High School in 1956. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at the Ramstien Air Force Base in Germany. He and his twin brother Doyle played on the baseball team for the Ramstien Rams and travelled throughout Germany. He came to The Dalles in 1960. In 1964 he and Beverly Moore were married. He worked for 34 years for Harvey Aluminum, Martin Marietta and Goldendale Columbia Aluminum.
An avid golfer, he was a member of The Dalles Country Club and the Oregon State Jr. and Sr. Golf Association. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge, The American Legion and was a past member of the Elks Lodge. He was also involved with Babe Ruth Baseball for many years.
Survivors include his wife Beverly McKinney, daughter Mary McDonnell and son Craig McKinney, all of The Dalles; sister Helen Johnston and her husband Don, Hot Springs, Ark.; brother Jerry Hull, Memphis, Tennessee; sister-in-law Mary McKinney, Hot Springs, Arkansas; three grandchildren Tyler McDonnell, Portland, Oregon; Jake McDonnell, New Brunswick, New Jersey; and Katie Grove, Wyoming. Two great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother Doyle McKinney, a sister, Hazel Pitts and a brother Gary Hull and his mother Lois Hull.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Celilo Cancer Center or Heart of Hospice.

McKinney, Lum Doyle - Lum Doyle McKinney, 70, of Hot Springs died Wednesday, September 12, 2007, at his home.  He was born March 16, 1937, to Lois and Ira McKinney in Hot Springs, Arkansas.  He served in the U. S. Air Force and retired from the Arkansas Air National Guard and Garland County Sheriff's Department.  He is predeceased by his father, Ira McKinney; one sister, Hazel Pitts and brother, Gary Hull.  Survivors include his wife, Mary McKinney of Hot Springs; daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Richard Johnson of Allen, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Diane McKinney of Hot Springs; his mother, Lois Hull of Hot Springs; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Beverly McKinney of Oregon; sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Don Johnston of Hot Springs and brother, Jerry Hull of Memphis, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Sara Johnson and Elizabeth Johnson of Allen, Texas, and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10 a.m. today in Church of Christ Airport Road with Jack Smith officiating.
Pallbearers will be Waymon Orr, Bill Baswell, Don Harris, Phil Arman, Richard Johnson, Jim Hall, and Don Duren.
Honorary pallbearers are Tommy Moran, Robert Braughton and Don Johnston.
Burial will be in Lowe Cemetery, Royal, Arkansas.

McWilliams, Rodney - Rodney McWilliams, 63, of Hot Springs, died Monday, March 15, 2010, at home. He was born May 29, 1946, in Olney, Illinois, to Ned and LaVerne McWilliams.
After deciding to become a teacher, he began his teaching career in Lepanto, Arkansas. Since had had graduated from Hot Springs High School, Rodney wanted to return home to teach, which he did. He retired from the Hot Springs School District after 29 years of classroom teaching.
Rodney was a wonderful caring teacher and participated actively as a sponsor of many activities. "Mr. Mack" was respected and loved by those with who he worked and those he taught. Although he loved teaching, above all, he loved his family and his pride in them was unbounded.
He was preceded in death by his beloved grandmother, Maggie Whitley, and his parents. He is survived by his wife, Sandra; son, Michael and wife Christy, of Dallas, Texas; son, Whitley, and fiancee Anna Mitchell, of Hot Springs; and five grandchildren, Whitney, Alex, Grayson, Carissa and Colton; one great-grandchild, Raylyn; his sister, Shelta Banks and husband Robert; niece, Allison Young, all of Memphis; and other children he loved were Gunnar, Ethan and Tucker.
Rodney was dedicated to the Oaklawn Relay for Life and the family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be given to this charity, Oaklawn Relay for Life, c/o Oaklawn Jockey Club.
There will be no formal service. However, visitation will be at Hot Springs Funeral Home today, Wednesday, March 17, from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

Medcalf, William "Bill" - William "Bill" Medcalf, 74, of Hot Springs Village died April 18, 2006.  He was born in Caruthersville, Missouri, to R. H. and Hattie Medcalf on March 4, 1932.
When he was a young boy, his family moved to Hot Springs where his father was a jeweler and mother a school teacher.  Two brothers and a son preceded him in death.  After high school, he joined the Navy serving five years in the submarine service during the Korean War.  While in the Navy, he learned to fly during his time off-duty.  After leaving the Navy, he went to the University of Missouri in St. Louis where he got all his needed credentials for flying.  He then went to work for Central Airlines in Fort Worth, which later became Continental Airlines.  It was while he was working there that he met his wife, Nan.  They lived in Fort Worth for the next 41 years, where they raised three children:  Monica Snow of Haslet, Texas, Griff Medcalf of Hot Springs, and Michael Medcalf (deceased); six grandchildren:  Melinda McCloud (Texas), Paige Roberts (Texas), Brooke Collins (Texas), Kendal Snow (Texas), Ryan Mecalf (Texas), and Travis Medcalf (Hot Springs, Arkansas); and also three great-grandchildren:  Madeline McCloud, Cole and Corby Roberts.  Other than family and flying, his other interests were the great outdoors, hunting, fishing, music and journalism.  He played the guitar, banjo, bass and the harmonica.  He was also the author of five books.
After retiring from the airlines in 1982, he went back to school and received his Bachelor's degree in journalism and a Master's in Aviation Science and Technology.
He and his wife Nan have lived in Hot Springs Village since 2000 where they are members of Christ of the Hills United Methodist Church.
Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Christ of the Hills United Methodist Church in Hot Springs Village.  Interment will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park in Colleyville, Texas.  Local arrangements are by Caruth Village Funeral Home.

Meek, Gary N. - Gary N. Meek, M.D., of Hot Springs peacefully went to be with the Lord on November 7, 2014. He lived a life filled with serving others in many ways.
Service will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 11, at Gross Funeral Home. Visitation will be prior to the celebration at 1:00 p.m.
Dr. Meek is survived by his wife, Mary Julia Meek, his two sons, Greg P. (Catalina) and David G., and three grandchildren, Adam C. Meek, Brooks P. Meek, and Ellen M. Meek.
Dr. Meek grew up in Hot Springs, AR. After completing his training as a surgeon at UAMS, he served his country (Under The Barry Plan) and spent the remainder of his tour of duty in Northeast Thailand where he helped many members of the armed services and locals native to the area. Dr. Meek was awarded the rank of Major in the United States Air Force, the Bronze Star, and the Order of the White Rose from the Laotian Military.
Upon his return from the war, he returned home to join Vernon Sammons, M.D. and Robert Hill, M.D. at Surgery Associates of Hot Springs. Dr. Meek also had the pleasure of working along side Dr. Ron Kaler, Dr. Allen Gerber, and Dr. Marc Rogers for over thirty five years. He touched many lives over the years, and said, "To be a surgeon required having the heart of a lion and the hands of a lamb."
After Dr. Meek retired, he volunteered at a clinic for those in need, and at the Quapaw House. He said those years were some of the best in his medical career.
Dr. Meek was a voracious reader, collector of historic artifacts, loved animals, and was a tremendous story teller. He pursued education his whole life and loved those around him. Dr. Meek served with many organizations such as the Hot Springs School Board and the board of advisors for the local hospitals. He had a true servant's heart. He set an example that many followed over the years.

Meredith, Donnie Mae Emerson - Donnie M. Meredith, age 76, of Sunshine, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 17, 2013.
She was born on December 22, 1936, in Hot Springs, the daughter of Donald Isaac Emerson and Lola Pearl Sexton Emerson. On May 11, 1957, she was married to Jackie G. Meredith, who preceded her in death on September 13, 2004. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Mary Ann "Sizzie" Turner. Donnie was a member of Hot Springs Baptist Church, where she was active in the Joy Sunday School Class. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years. Donnie enjoyed helping Jack with Meredith Farms in Sunshine and her children and grandsons were the center of her life.
She is survived by her son, Doug Meredith of Sunshine and Melissa Anderson of Royal; her daughter, Melanie Meredith of Sunshine; three grandsons, Jake Meredith, Jared Meredith and Jack Meredith, all of Sunshine; her brother, Earl Emerson of Texarkana, Arkansas; her sister, Frances McFarland of California; the mother and step-father of her grandsons, Becki and Roger Kellar of Sunshine; six brothers-in-law and seven sisters-in-law, Brown and Annette Meredith, A. J. and Mary Lou Meredith, Opal and Wayne Irons, Fern and Jackie Robbins, Lavell Effird, Brauna Stroope and Linda and Billy Carl Heaton, all of Hot Springs; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members; and a host of wonderful friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m, Monday, October 21, 2013, in the Hot Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Smith and Rev. Manley Beasley officiating. Visitation will held from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church.
Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Sunshine, under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs.

Merritt, Bette Hall - On February 5, 2012 [believe year is 2013], and after 84 years, Bette Hall Merritt completed her work as an apprentice angel and has moved on to the next level. A wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she served her family and her nation faithfully as an Army wife and mentor to countless military families through times of peace and war. Bette attended public schools in Hot Springs and graduated in 1945. She went on to attend Henderson State Teachers College and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1950. It was there that she met her husband, Carl, with whom she spent the next 59 years.
As the wife of a career Army officer, she moved her family across the country several times and overseas on two occasions. They returned to Hot Springs in 1971 where she worked at the family business, Hall’s Gift Shop. She worked tirelessly as a volunteer with the Hot Springs Lioness Club and was named Lioness of the Year in 1988. A devout Christian, she and Carl were cornerstones of the Highland Presbyterian Church in Hot Springs. If Mom were writing this, I think the one thing she would tell us is how much she really really loved Dad.
She leaves the world her daughter, Carla Whisenhunt and son-in-law Robert Whisenhunt; son, Ron, daughter-in-law, Julie Merritt; grandchildren, Carie Baker, Amanda Osbourne, Melissa Gill, Craig Whisenhunt, Megan Babcock and Alexandra Merritt. She also leaves a legacy of six great-grandchildren, Colin Baker, Harrison Chrane, Maddie Gill, Sam Gill, Annie Chrane and Jackson Gill. And she leaves us her best friend since fourth grade, Nat Martin. Mom loved a lively discussion, a serious debate and a good game of cards. She was a lover of all of God’s creatures, especially birds.
In lieu of flowers, please put up a bluebird house, or buy a bag of birdseed. Merryman, Bob Dyer - Bob D. Merryman 78, of Louisville, Kentucky, formerly of Hot Springs, passed away November 29, 2014, in Louisville. He was born February 19, 1936, in Hot Springs to Jim and Edith Dyer Merryman.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Bette Ann Stone Merryman; and his brother Lt. General James H. Merryman.
After graduating from Hot Springs High School, Bob attended the University of Arkansas, Henderson State University, and graduated with a degree in engineering from Southern Methodist University. In 1960 he moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, to work for Norge Manufacturing, and later Ft. Smith, Arkansas. General Electric called upon him in 1966 to be a product engineer, where he served until 1998. Bob loved his family and friends, and really enjoyed his poker club, bowling leagues, and the Kappa Sigma Kappa fraternity reunions. As a believer in Jesus Christ, Bob is now a resident of heaven! He was a member of West Broadway Baptist Church.
Cherishing his memory are his daughters, Robin Lynn Kelty (Edward) of Lexington, Kentucky and Susan Dawn Horstman (Larry) of Louisville, Kentucky. Bob was very proud of his four grandchildren, Brent, Connor and Tessa Kelty and Austin Horstman; great-grandson, Christopher Kelty, sister-in-law, Jane Merryman, nephew, Jim Merryman; and countless friends.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2014, at Gross Funeral Home chapel with Brother Herbert Watt, officiating.

Merryman, James H. - Lieutenant General James H. Merryman died of cancer at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at the age of 73.
He was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas, on April 3, 1929.  He graduated from Henderson State Teachers College and was commissioned as an Infantry Officer in 1951.  The following year, he attended fixed-wing flight training. He transferred to Armor Branch in 1955 and completed helicopter school in 1956. In 1959, he was integrated into the Regular Army as an Artillery Officer.
General Merryman's assignments included command of the 269th Combat Aviation Battalion and command of the 17th Aviation Group in the Republic of Vietnam; Assistant Division Commander of the 3rd Armored Division and Chief of Staff of V Corps in Germany; numerous positions on the Army General Staff, including assignment as the last Director of Army Aviation. Subsequently, General Merryman served as Deputy Chief of Combat Development, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command; Commanding General, U.S. Army Aviation Center; and Assistant Deputy Chief of staff for Research, Development and Acquisition where he was instrumental in the creation of the Aviation branch and the acquisition of the MH-6 Little Bird, AH-64A/D Apache Attack Helicopter, the M1 Abrams Tank and the M2/3 Bradley Fighting Vehicle.
General Merryman graduated from the Infantry and Artillery Officer Basic Courses, Advanced Courses at the Artillery and Armor Schools, Command and General Staff College, and the Army War College. His decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, two Legions of Merit, three Distinguished Flying Crosses, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, 25 Air Medals, three Army Commendation Medals, and numerous foreign awards and service medals. He also wore the Master Aviator Badge. He was inducted into Army Aviation Hall of Fame in 1992.
General Merryman retired from active duty on July 31, 1984, after 34 years of active service. After retirement, General Merryman served as the Chairman of the Board of the Leica Corporation in the United States.
General Merryman was a member of Messiah United Methodist Church. He leaves behind his wife of 52 years, the former Jane Frantz of Hot Springs; his son, I. James Merryman and daughter-in-law, Andrea Merryman; two granddaughters, Victoria and Emma Merryman of Boulder, Colorado; and a brother, Bob Merryman, of Louisville, Kentucky.

Middleton, Marjorie Ann Searcy - Marjorie Ann Middleton, age 79, of Benton, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2012. She was born in Hot Springs on October 6, 1932, to the late Duffie Nixon Searcy and Ethyl Hortense Sanders Searcy. She was a homemaker, a member of First United Methodist in Benton, and was known as “Nana” to her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Bob Middleton and one brother, Larry Searcy.
She is survived by her husband of almost sixty years, William Robert Middleton; one son, Mark Searcy Middleton and wife, Anita of San Antonio, Texas; one daughter, Cindy Middleton of Benton; three grandchildren, Matthew Middleton and wife, Tiffany, Meredith Middleton Carriker and husband, Matt, and Alexandra Middleton; four great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Jonah, and Liam Middleton and Adalyn Carriker, and other relatives and friends.

Miller, J. Sturgis - J. Sturgis Miller of Pine Bluff and Hot Springs died Tuesday, September 21, 1999. He was 76.
Sturgis Miller was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas, on July 2, 1923, the son of Floyo Heard and Leon Cahill (L. C.) Miller. He graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1943. He married Angie Lee Huggins of Bauxite, Arkansas, in 1946 and the couple moved to Chicago where Miller enrolled in National Chiropractic College. Upon graduation, they returned to Hot Springs where he opened his practice. They then moved to Little Rock before settling in Pine Bluff in 1952.
In Pine Bluff, Miller became active in civic, charitable and professional organizations. He was a deacon at South Side Baptist Church, served as president of the Pine Bluff Kiwanis Club, and in 1960 was elected president of the Arkansas Chiropractic Association. Miller also served for more than 20 years as president of the Southeast Arkansas District Livestock Show and Rodeo Association.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Hot Springs, and a U.S. Amy Air Corps veteran of World War II.
In 1966, the people of Grand and Jefferson counties chose Miller to be their representative to the Arkansas General Assembly. He served in the Arkansas House of Representative for 28 years, facing opposition for re-election only twice. Early in his political career, Sturgis Miller championed the environmental preservation, insurance equity and public education. He testified before Congress in behalf of saving the Buffalo River and was instrumental in creating the Arkansas Trails System and the Natural Heritage Commission. His legislation regarding insurance coverage for chiropractic care became a national model for alternative therapy coverage. He also was a sponsor of the legislation creating Arkansas' Gifted and Talented program.
He is survived by his wife, Angie Huggins Miller; sons, Leon Cahill Miller of New Orleans and Jay Sturgis Miller, daughter-in-law Janee Norsworth Miller; granddaughters Jennifer Cahill Miller, Jordan Huggins Miller and Jameson Sturgis Miller of Little Rock; brother Eugene Miller of Hot Springs; and sister Wanda Miller Tow of Fort Worth, Texas.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, September 23, 1999, at Gross Funeral Home Chapel, Dr. John S. McCallum II officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Mr. Mooney was born May 1, 1939. in Hot Springs, Arkansas. to David Aloysius Mooney and Alden Locke Palmer Mooney. He was the grandson of Clyde Eber ‘C.E.’ Palmer, who was a pioneer in the newspaper industry. He grew up in Hot Springs, graduated from Hot Springs High School, was an active member and altar boy at St. John’s Catholic Church. He attended Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas where he met his future wife, Robbie, and was President of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He and Robbie married and moved to Norman, Oklahoma where he finished his degree at Oklahoma University. He was very involved with his grandfather’s newspaper business and eventually became a pioneer in the cable television industry with his roots in WEHCO Media as vice president and general manager of several cable television systems including: Hot Springs, Camden, Hope and Prescott, Arkansas; Vicksburg, Mississippi; and lastly Longview, Texas. He branched out on his own in 1979 to Gilmer, Texas, where he and Robbie opened Gilmer Cable Television Company. He was an active member in Rotary Club, ETCOG, director of Emergency Management, treasurer of Trinity Episcopal Parish, and many countless other organizations with a focus on aiding his fellow man. He invested himself in the Gilmer community as a Yamboree volunteer, spelling bee participant, and Buckeye football fan. He will be missed by his many friends, caregivers and family.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Robbie Cloy Mooney and survived by daughters and son-in-law, Jennifer and Craig Bass of Fort Worth and Jillana Mooney of Houston; grandchildren, Jordan Bass, Alden Bass, and Delaney Bass.

Her parents were Frank W. "Doc" Jones and Ruth N. Cooper Jones. They owned the Cooper House on Pleasant Street. Her younger brother was Frank Cooper Jones.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Moore (Tucson), two children, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Morgando, Bettie Jane Parker - Bettie Jane Morgando of Henderson, Nevada, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2011. She was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas, on June 10, 1931, to Ruby and Walter Earnest Parker. Following Walter's death, Ruby married John L. Young.
Bettie went to high school in Hot Springs and later graduated from Canal Zone College and then attended Panama College. She was married to John Morgando in San Francisco, California, on November 30, 1956.
After college, Bettie began her career as a stewardess/purser aboard Pan American World Airways, flying the Latin America and Asia routes.
Following her career with Pan American, she and John moved to Northridge, California, in 1959 and then to Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1973.
Bettie had a deep love of life that included golf, painting, writing, cooking and Frank Sinatra music.
Bettie is survived by her husband John; daughter Michelle; daughter Pamela and husband Michael; grandson Christopher; son John Christopher and wife April; extended family.

Moss, Velda Sue "Suzy" McCoy - Velda Sue (Suzy) Moss, 77, of Hot Springs, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home early Monday morning, November 3, 2014.
Born May 14, 1937, she was a lifelong resident of Hot Springs, a devoted wife and mother, and throughout her journey made countless friends who will dearly miss her kind heart, warm smile and laughter. She was always ready to volunteer, play a game or head to the horse races or casino. Nothing gave her more pleasure than bragging about her grandkids or telling stories about their dog, Tucker. Those who knew Suzy will especially miss her honest opinions and the wink of her beautiful blue eyes.
She is survived by Jim, her husband of 57 years; sister Dorothy Rogers; sons Randy and Mike; and grandchildren John, Jennifer, Austin, Kendall, C. J. and Hallie. She was preceded in death by mother Bertha McCoy and sister Betty Simmons.
Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home. A service will be held Friday at noon at First United Methodist Church with Revs. David Wilson, Zach Roberts and John Miles officiating. Murphy, George Randolph - George Randolph Murphy, 84, died Tuesday, November 3, 2009. Born January 31, 1925 to Cash Lawrence and Ina Mae Murphy in Smackover, Arkansas.
Predeceased by his wife Jane, he is survived by his son Randy and his wife Jackie of Little Rock, and his son Roger and his wife Lucy of Walnut Creek, California. Also, grandchildren Adam and his wife Diana and daughter Zora of Concord, California, Henry and his wife Lauren and son Nikolai of San Francisco, California, and Samuel of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and special sister-in-law Betty Murphy.
He graduated Hot Springs High School in 1943 and served in the Army Air Corps in WWII in the Pacific. George and Jane were married in May, 1945. He graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1958. In 1968 he and Jane returned to reside in Hot Springs where they operated Murphy Marine for several years on Grand Avenue, after which he spent many years working with his brother Roy at Mid-South Engineering.
Throughout his life he took much pleasure in hunting and fishing with his brother Roy and nephew Lee and their many companions in the Lake Ouachita Camping Association. He had a natural understanding of mechanics and the way things worked. He showed his genius over and over by keeping his friends boats on the lake and getting their cars back from camp. He was ever helpful to friends and family. He was an accomplished natural musician, bird watcher, cook and lover of the outdoors of Arkansas.

Murphy, Shirley Ann Collier - Shirley Ann Murphy, 55, of Hot Springs, died Friday, March 27, in a Little Rock hospital.
She was a native of Hot Springs and lived here the past five years. She was a former Florida real estate broker and was a partner in Murphy Farms. She attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville where she was a native of Chi Omega Sorority. She was a Catholic.
Survivors include her husband, Henry Bruce Murphy, Jr., of Hot Springs; two sons, Michael Bruce Murphy of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Dr. Joseph Stanley Murphy of Little Rock; one daughter, Patricia Ann Silvery of Brooksville, Florida; her mother, Mrs. George P. Collier of Hot Springs; one brother, George P. Collier, Jr., of Memphis, Tennessee; three grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Patrick J. Walsh officiating.

Murray, Virgil P. - Virgil P. Murray, 72, of Hot Springs passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2003, in a local hospital.
He was born November 14, 1930, in Hot Springs to Richard McKinley Murray and Bertha Terry Murray.  He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Cecil Murray, Richard Murray, Jr.; and a sister, Patricia Winston. After graduating from Hot Springs High School, he resided in New Orleans, Louisiana, from 1950 to 1970 where he was in a family-owned floor covering business. He returned to Hot Springs where he owned and operated the Shorecrest Resort on Lake Hamilton and other lake properties through the years until his retirement. He was an active member of Central Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Danah Dale Murray; one son and daughter-in-law, Preston and Cathy of Highland Village, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Lynn Howell of Edmond, Oklahoma; and a sister, Sue Murray Davis and brother-in-law Don Davis. Grandchildren are Nicole Murray Chambers and spouse Brent Chambers of Austin, Texas, Andrew Murray of Highland Village, Texas, Thomas and Elizabeth Howell of Edmond, Oklahoma. Survivors also include several nieces and nephews, other family members and a host of loving friends.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2003, at Central Baptist Church.
Burial of the cremains will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Dr. David Smith and the Reverend Coy Sample officiating.
Honorary pallbearers are Bill Dale, Jim Geurin, Bill Muse, Dr. Daniel Rowe, Dr. John Brandt, Dr. P. K. Reddy, Dr. Neeraj Bharamy, Dr. John Wayne Smith and nursing staff at St. Joseph Hospital.

Muse, William "Bill" - William “Bill” Muse, 78, of Hot Springs passed away Sunday, October 27, 2013. He was born November 24, 1934, in Hot Springs to the late Turl and Henrietta Seay Muse.
He was an Army veteran and member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife; Linda Muse; son, Fred (Jude) Muse; daughter, Dale (Ken) Slayton; brothers, Richard (Janet) Muse, Randy (Kathy) Muse; sister, Martha Stephens; four grandchildren, Jake Muse, Audrey Muse, Stuart Slayton, Victoria Slayton and nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m.. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with Reverend David Wilson and Reverend Michael Mattox officiating.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Dale Kincheloe, Dr. Robert Muldoon, Genesis Cancer Center, Dr. Martin Koehn, Arkansas Hospice and L.O.C.A. Lake Ouachita Camping Association.
