Conway County, Arkansas
Reid, Henry 
1836-1905
Henry Reid served in the Union Army during the Civil War. He enlisted twice. First was on June 10, 1862, at Helena, Arkansas, for six months. He enrolled in Co. B of the 1st. Regiment of Arkansas Volunteers commanded by Captain T. W. Williams. He was honorably discharged at St. Louis, Missouri (Benton Barracks) on December 31, 1862. A War Department Record from the Adjutant General's Office dated April 25, 1884, substantiates this information and indicated that he mustered in on July 2, 1862, at Helena, Arkansas, and was present for roll in September and October 1862. He was a member of the G.O.P.
In the Declaration of a Widow for Original Pension, filed by Eliza Ann Reid on August 5, 1905, she indicated that Henry had also enlisted at Springfield, Missouri,. on July 12, 1863, as a Private in Co. E. 2nd Reg. Arkansas Volunteers and was discharged on August 20, 1865. According to the description which Henry gave on the petition, he was 6' tall with light complexion, light hair, and dark eyes.
Henry died of disease of lungs and is buried in the Reid Cemetery in Conway County, Arkansas.

Bain, Henry 
1815-1897
Henry Bain served in the Confederate Army.
Bain enlisted on December 10, 1861, for twelve months at the age of forty-six. He was a third Sergeant in Perry Adcock's Company of the 16th Tennessee. He was captured on February 16, 1862, at the fall of Fort Donelson in west Tennessee. He was sent to Camp Morton, Indiana, and was listed as a prisoner of war on August 27, 1862, when he exchanged at Vicksburg, Mississippi. He was elected First Sergeant on September 20, 1862. He received his disability discharge on March 6, 1863.
Bain is buried in Bain Cemetery, Garland County, Arkansas.

Gillham, Philip Phagan 
From the The Looking Glass fall 1995: Co. H. 3rd Mo. Cavalry U.S. Gillham fought in a skirmish at Hot Springs on February 10, 1864, and escaped unharmed. His hand-hewn log cabin, built in 1865, has been preserved at Royal, Arkansas. While Gillham was rebuilding his cabin, a group of bushwhackers tried to steal his horse. In defense of his property, he shot and killed one of the men.
He is buried in Lowe Cemetery, Garland County, Arkansas

Nobles, Nathaniel

Nobles was in the first group of men who signed up for Company F, 3rd Arkansas Cavalry. He died in a military hospital in Okolona, Mississippi, on June 4, 1862, and is probably buried in an unmarked grave in the Confederate Cemetery located near the hospital. When he joined the Confederate army he left a wife, Margaret and three children, after his death the family moved to Texas.

Service: Duty at Nashville and Athens till March, 1865. Action at Athens January 28, 1865. Near Philadelphia March 1. Operations about Athens March 2-4. Guard passes east of Athens till July. Mustered out July 27, 1865. William served first time Co. A 1st. Tennessee Infantry, Confederate Army; second time Co I , 7th Reg. Tennessee Mounted Infantry, Union Army. He was captured towards the end of the war and was given a choice go to a Union prison or join the Union Army.
He is buried in Buckville Cemetery, Garland County, Arkansas.

Warford, Francis Barclay

A private of Company G, 1st Regiment (Crawford’s) Arkansas Calvary, Confederate States Army,
Warford enlisted the 9th of December 1862. Union Prisoner of War records show that he was captured the 22nd of August 1864 in Jefferson County, Arkansas.
He had an impressive war record fighting in battles at Corinth (Mississippi), Arkansas Post, Vicksburg (Mississippi), Chickamauga, Resaca
(Georgia), Franklin (Tennessee), Nashville, Bentonville, and in Georgia.
He was a Union Prisoner of War at Little Rock, Arkansas, and Alton, Illinois, for seven months until he was exchanged in February of 1865.
After he was exchanged, he immediately re-entered the war. Later accounts have him killed in action but he lived to return to Garland County, Arkansas, where he operated a mill on the South Fork of the Saline River until his death in 1876.
Francis Barclay Warford was married to Rachel Jane White and had seven children. He is buried in the Smith Creek Cemetery, Lonsdale, Arkansas.
