QRYTEXT: I know that my grandfather, William Calvin Cummings and my grandmother, Virdia Gravis Gardner lived in Mississippi County, Arkansas in the 1930's. My grandfather William Cummings was shot by Turner Lauderdale and I have the newspaper clippings from the Blytheville Courier on May 23, 1934 and May 24, 1934. He was buried at Bassett Cemetery. What I would like is to find out if any one knows what happened leading up to the shooting or the results of the shooting. J.L. Cummings, father of the Cummings boys was arrested on the morning of Wednesday, May 23, 1934. Is there any documentation to this fact? The shooting took place on the DeLugach Plantation at Carson Lake. Are there any court records for or charges that were filed? Mr. DeLugach, who lives in Memphis had instructed Lauderdale to employ no members of the Cummings family. Does anyone know why?
