FERRING - GAILBREATH Wm. Antonio FERRING was born in Milan, Italy, in 1823. He studied medicine at the Louisville [KY] Medical School, and married Sarah Elizabeth GAILBREATH, 30 Oct 1845, in Jefferson Co., KY. He continued his study of medicine at Tulane Univ., and then settled in Arkansas, ca 1857. In the 1860 Census, the family was enumerated at Barfield P. O., Canadian Twp., in Mississippi Co. The family then included the following children: Geo. L.; Thomas W.; Cybthia E.; Marianne C.; Lucy S.; Sarah A.; and John M. William joined the Confederacy 4 Jul 1861, as a 2nd Lt. and served in Co. C, 18th [Marmadukes] Reg't, Arkansas Inf., was later wounded, captured, and imprisoned at Johnson Island, near Sandusky, OH. Still suffering from his wounds, he returned home on crutches, and died as a result thereof, 7 Sep 1872. Soon thereafter, his widow returned to KY, with son John M. and daughter Sarah A. The rest of the children, then of age, had married and remained in Arkansas. She died in Jefferson Co., KY, 8 June 1898, leaving the 300 acre Arkansas homestead to those children remaining there. I would like to know were William A. FERRING may be buried and learn more of those who continued to live there.

NAME:BILL HOLIFIELD

SURNAMES: HOLIFELD

I am looking for information on my ancestors who moved to Arkansas, I believe to Miss. Co.; moved from western Tennessee. I am particularly interested in the years of late 1800's and early 1900's. These people would have been descendents of William HOLIFIELD who moved to Graves Co. KY from NC in 1800's. My limb of the Holifield tree later moved to Texas, but it is likely they moved to AR prior to coming to TX. Common spellings of the HOLIFIELD name were:HOLIFIELD, HOLLIFIELD, HOLYFIELD, HOLLYFIELD,

Thank you, BILL HOLIFIELD

I am requesting information on Pascal RICE who lived in Mississippi County @1860 or 1870 and from then on just over the borderinto Dunklin County, Missouri. Pascal married Sarah DAUGHERTY or DOHERTY, awidow from Illinois who had several children, one of whom Elizabeth MarthaDAUGHERTY or DOHERTY married John STRATTON. Their daughter, Nebraska STRATTON,was my great-grandmother. She was born @ 1880 and married John WashingtonPOWERS. Family tradition states that Sarah, who was also called Wenokie, was a Chickasaw or Cherokee Indian, as was her first husband and all of her children. She was also supposedly descended from a Chief called White or Whitepath. Would also like information on a Liza Victoria DAVIS SWAN WOODROUGH (or WOODRUFF) who lived in Leachville, Arkansas at the turn of the century. Her daughter, Lula Ruth SWAN was my great-grandmother.
Thanks.DOUG POWERS
