Mary Lois Gamill Wright

Mary Lois Gamill Wright went to be with her creator on October 13, 2012, in Commerce, TX, at the age of 98.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry C. Wright, Sr. and five brothers and two sisters.  She was born in Ashdown, AR, to Mary Ida Smith and William Floyd Sr.  She was the youngest of 8 children.  She was survived by her son, Henry C. Wright, Jr. (Butch) and his wife, Kris Wright of Commerce, TX; two loving grandchildren:  Jennifer Wright and Karen Wright, both of Richardson, TX; a step-granddaughter, Janaa Farmer of Sulphur Springs, TX; and, a niece, Mary D. Pace and husband, Ron Pace of Wake Village, TX.  She has many nieces and nephews as well as great great-nephew, Jon Adams of Wake Village.

Lois was delivered in her parents' home on their small farm in Ashdown, Arkansas, on March 12, 1914, by Dr. York.  She started school in 1921 and attended Ashdown Public Schools for 1st - 12th grades with the exception of 5th grade which she attended in Hot Springs, AR.  She graduated from high school in three years and went straight to Mrs. Nash's Texarkana Business College where she learned to use a calculator, bookkeeping, typing and shorthand.

Lois started her career with Day and Zimmerman Lonestar Plant in 1952.  She dedicated over 30 years to the accounting/payroll department which she managed.  At her retirement party, she was recognized for never taking a sick day!  Lois spent most of her retirement years as a widow and living life to its fullest.

She filled her life with the many things she loved such as traveling, spending time with family and friends, church activities, playing card games, crocheting, quilting and being involved with her Theos and garden club.  She was a faithful member and class teacher at the Wake Village Baptist Church, an active member of the Evergreen Senior Group and the Village Garden Club where she also served as President and held many other offices through the years.  She also volunteered almost daily at the local nursing home where she would fill the hallways while playing, from memory, hymns from the Baptist hymnal  She was always a cheerful participant in church and with her family and friends.  She was a true example of God's love and grace living her life in a true walk with Christ.  Her passion for life and survival was clear as she survived breast cancer in 1985, an almost fatal aneurysm in 1996 and a not so easy childbirth to her one and only prized son, Butch.

Lois was a gregarios lady who made friends with everyone she came into contact with.  Her family and friends will miss her greatly but find peace in knowing she is in Heaven above celebrating and at peace with her Father.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 16, 2012, in Hillcrest Cemetery, Highway 67, Texarkana, TX, with Minister Carl Teel officiating.
